Job summary

Mount Desert Island Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Engineering Mechanic II to join our maintenance team. You will perform maintenance, repairs, and improvements across the hospital and health centers, working independently with limited supervision.

You'll handle a variety of skilled tasks to keep buildings, equipment, and facilities running smoothly, ensuring safety and reliability for patients and staff on Bar Harbor's island community.

Qualifications

• Must be a High School/GED graduate.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Knowledge in a particular trade or valued skill.
• Relevant experience in trade or equivalent skill.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of general semiskilled to skilled maintenance; alteration and repair to machinery, equipment or facilities in accordance with basic skills, abilities, and standard procedures, diagrams, or manufacturers' instructions.
• Perform routine electrical maintenance, replacement or alteration of circuit wiring, switches, control equipment and mechanisms, motors, transformers, relays, generators, appliances, fixtures, alarms, communication equipment, etc.
• Perform general plumbing maintenance such as: maintain, repair and make alterations to steam, gas, water and sanitary plumbing pipes and fixtures; bend, cut seams, and thread pipe, wipe joints, test joints, and pipe systems for leaks; repair and replace valves, repair leaks, and clean drain stoppages.
• Read and understand blueprints.

3. 4. Ability to perform general welding -- welding, cutting, joining metals not requiring critical test tolerance or certification.
5. Ability to read and understand blueprints.

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to be on feet most of the day.
2. Ability to lift, pull and push equipment.
3. Ability to stoop and reach.
4. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
5. Adequate vision and manual skills.
6. Ability to work on roof or other high places such as ladders.

Environment:

1. May be exposed to the following hazards: needles or other sharp objects, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, dust, fumes from solvents, oil, paints or other materials, welding fumes, extreme changes in temperature, high voltage, biohazards and other job-related items.
2. May be required to perform maintenance tasks in room occupied by patients.
3. May be required to perform maintenance tasks in very noisy areas.
