Job summary

Qualifications

Scope Of Position

To lead and manage the Division Engineering Thermal Technology team through:

  • Supporting CET Base Business, New Products, and/or Environmental Futures
  • Advancing core technology and developing technology solutions to current and future business problems and products
  • Improving existing manufacturing processes and capabilities
  • Developing methods and processes for the manufacture of new products
  • Developing methods, measurements, and processes to improve existing products
  • Supporting manufacturing improvement initiatives, including variability reduction, defect reduction, process control improvement, 6-Sigma, MEE and cost reduction
  • Developing new manufacturing technologies and methods across the thermal technology portfolio
Day To Day Responsibilities

To provide engineering technical expertise and leadership for equipment, process, methods and measurement technologies across the Environmental Technologies Division Engineering thermal technology space, including firing, drying and APT. Lead technology and engineering programs and project teams.

Responsibilities Include
  • Sponsorship, leadership and technical coaching of individuals and teams to deliver new technologies, equipment, and processes to manufacturing
  • Plan, organize and execute programs and projects to deliver capacity and capability improvement
  • Lead project work spanning initiation, design, development, manufacturing implementation, start-up and acceptance
  • Serve in technical leadership, project leadership, project sponsorship and technology champion roles, with global influence within CET
  • Manage internal Corning and external vendor resources to complete project deliverables
  • Apply engineering principles and methods to resolve technical and operational challenges and delivery cost reduction
  • Support and drive development and execution of division engineering strategy, roadmap and project portfolio
  • Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution
  • Apply project management and process engineering knowledge, skills and experience from concept through delivery of processes and equipment at manufacturing locations.
  • Drive alignment across thermal technology priorities, resources, and manufacturing needs
Projects Involved With

Developing new and improving existing manufacturing technologies, processes, equipment, methods and measurements across firing, drying and APT technologies. Developing methods, processes and measurements for the manufacture of new products. Improving precision, quality, cost and efficiency of finished part attributes. Supporting manufacturing improvements, variability reduction, defect reduction, process control, capacity, and 6-Sigma.

Role Within Group

Provide department & project leadership, guide application of technical and process engineering skills to meet department and business objectives. Lead the thermal technology team responsible for firing, drying and APT technology capabilities. Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development, modeling, and process experts to deliver step change and improvement of technology capabilities across CET’s global manufacturing sites, Identify, develop and implement next generation technology, capability and capacity and support manufacturing technical and business efforts.

Travel Requirements (please Note If International)

Some travel should be expected, dependent on objectives. International travel is possible. Typical travel requirement is ≤25%.

Hours Of Work/work Schedule/flex-time

Typically 8 AM – 5 PM Monday – Friday, some flex time is possible to support project assignments.

Required Skills
  • Demonstrated technical competence in chemical, mechanical, materials or process engineering.
  • Track record successfully developing and delivering technical projects to manufacturing
  • Experience with ceramics processing and measurement technologies.
  • Project management and leadership skills, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team.
  • Achieve results through application of rigorous process improvement or project management methods, such as 6-Sigma.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Experience growing talent through development plans, coaching and alignment.
Desired Skills
  • Demonstrated results developing and delivering step change innovations to manufacturing
  • Skills and experience with development and application of engineering principles, process control and Design of Experiments methods to solve manufacturing issues
  • Experience with application of 6-Sigma methods
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in thermal processing technologies, ceramics processing or metrology.
  • Formal project management training, such as PMP certification.
Education And Experience Required
  • BS, MS or PhD in an engineering discipline (chemical, mechanical, or materials preferred)
  • 10 years experience in manufacturing, engineering or development
  • Leadership and supervisory skills demonstrated leading teams responsible for implementation of new processes or equipment into manufacturing.

The range for this position is $147,927.00 - $203,400.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
