This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager, Sportsbook - FBG based in the United States.

This is an opportunity to lead a talented engineering team responsible for shaping and enhancing a high-performance digital sportsbook experience. You will oversee the development of client-side capabilities that bring live markets, sporting events, player statistics, and real-time data to customers. Working closely with product, design, and technical leaders, you will translate business priorities into effective engineering roadmaps and reliable delivery. You will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement while supporting engineers' professional growth. The role combines people leadership, technical guidance, and operational ownership in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You will help build scalable, resilient products using modern technologies, including Kotlin and Kotlin Multiplatform.

Accountabilities
  • Recruit, retain, mentor, and develop engineers through regular feedback, coaching, and clear career development plans.
  • Lead team planning and execution, establishing clear ownership, managing risks, removing blockers, and ensuring delivery against business commitments.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and technical leadership to prioritize initiatives, align roadmaps with business objectives, and balance new features with technical debt.
  • Establish effective team practices, communication rhythms, and operational processes that encourage psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Provide technical guidance and contribute to architectural decisions, helping engineers evaluate design choices, maintain high standards, and build maintainable systems.
  • Promote operational excellence across team-owned applications and services, with a focus on reliability, observability, resilience, and incident management.
  • Improve Agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, and retrospectives, while monitoring delivery performance.
  • Help the team respond effectively to production incidents, changing priorities, and high-pressure situations through clear processes and a continuous-learning mindset.
  • Contribute to developing, testing, documenting, and deploying high-quality software into production.
  • Build a strong understanding of the sportsbook industry, product capabilities, and roadmap to inform technology decisions.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve products, engineering processes, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, troubleshooting urgent application issues outside regular business hours and supporting production stability.
  • Escalate project risks and delivery roadblocks when necessary.
  • Be available for occasional travel to company offices, conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities.
Requirements
  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including 2 or more years in direct engineering management or technical leadership roles overseeing software engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent while building inclusive, high-performing teams.
  • Strong technical foundation in mobile or client-service systems, with the architectural knowledge needed to assess designs, guide trade-offs, and promote sound engineering practices.
  • Experience managing delivery plans, unblocking engineers, and maintaining high standards of quality and operational discipline in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development and Scrum methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to engineers, technical leaders, business stakeholders, and non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset and a proactive approach to solving problems and improving how work gets done.
  • Ability to adapt and lead effectively in a high-growth environment where priorities can change and decisions need to be made quickly.
  • Experience working across functions within an enterprise environment.
  • A bachelor's degree, relevant professional certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Nice-to-have Qualifications
  • Experience designing and developing backend services using Spring Boot or comparable Java frameworks.
  • Background working with large-scale distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools.
  • Familiarity with functional programming concepts and actor-based concurrency frameworks such as Apache Pekko or Akka.

Candidates who meet many, but not necessarily all, of the qualifications are encouraged to apply.
