Job summary

Pinterest is seeking an Engineering Manager II, Runtime Services in the United States to shape strategy for two major platforms: a large-scale asynchronous job scheduling/execution system and an ML-driven anomaly detection and monitoring stack. You will lead roadmaps, drive automation, and grow a high-performing team while partnering with cross-functional groups to improve developer productivity.

Qualifications

• 9+ years in software engineering with distributed platforms.
• 2+ years of engineering management leading platform teams.
• Strong foundation in platform reliability, observability, Kubernetes or cloud infrastructure, data systems and developer experience.
• Understanding distributed systems, asynchronous execution, workflow orchestration and ML algorithms.
• Experience setting technical strategy and delivering improvements to scalability, efficiency or velocity.
• Ability to lead across platforms and collaborate with cross-functional partners.
• Clear communication, strong technical judgment, and people-focused leadership.
• Experience using AI to accelerate planning, analysis and execution with validation of accuracy, quality and security.
• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in CS or related field or equivalent practical experience.

Engineering Manager II, Runtime Services

What You’ll Do

• Establish the strategy, charter and operating model for a new team responsible for two major platforms.
• Pinterest’s large-scale asynchronous job scheduling and execution platform, and
• its anomaly detection, root-cause analysis, and ML monitoring platform.
• Lead the technical roadmap & evolution of these platforms, advancing automation, self-service onboarding, resource efficiency and reliability.
• Build strong partnerships with teams across Pinterest to understand customer needs, drive adoption and deliver measurable improvements in developer productivity and data-driven decision-making.
• Strengthen operational excellence across both platforms by improving observability, incident response, service health, documentation and engineering practices.
• Hire, coach and grow a high-performing team while establishing an inclusive culture of ownership, learning and continuous improvement.
• Use AI to accelerate planning, technical exploration, documentation and operational analysis, applying sound judgment and verification to ensure the quality and correctness of final outcomes. E.g. AI can be used for user onboarding, routine agentic evaluation of ongoing tasks.

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 9 years of software engineering experience, including deep expertise in distributed platforms and solid familiarity with backend systems & interest in algorithms in anomaly detection domain.
• Minimum 2 years of engineering management experience leading strong platform & backend highly available engineering teams.
• Strong technical foundation in platform reliability, observability, Kubernetes or cloud infrastructure, data systems and developer experience.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous execution, workflow orchestration and passion for machine learning algorithms.
• Experience setting technical strategy and delivering meaningful improvements to platform scalability, operational efficiency, customer adoption or engineering velocity.
• Ability to lead work across platforms and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.
• Clear communication skills, strong technical judgment, and a people-focused leadership approach.
• Experience using AI to accelerate engineering planning, analysis and execution, with a clear approach to validating accuracy, quality and security.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

In-Office Requirement Statement

• We recognize that the ideal environment for work is situational and may differ across departments. What this looks like day-to-day can vary based on the needs of each organization or role.
• This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times/quarter, and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country.

In an effort to provide greater transparency, we are sharing the base salary range for this position. The position is also eligible for equity. Final salary is based on a number of factors including location, travel, relevant prior experience, or particular skills and expertise.
