Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a cross-platform team responsible for image rendering and video playback across Pinterest apps and web. You will set technical direction and drive quality, performance, and reliability of media experiences.

You will collaborate with Media Transcoding, Performance, Data Science, Product and Infrastructure teams to improve delivery and reduce load times while maintaining high visual quality at scale.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of software engineering experience with iOS or Android and web tech familiarity.
• 5+ years of engineering management leading client or platform teams.
• Deep understanding of client performance, profiling and optimization.
• Strong foundation in media rendering, image delivery, video streaming, and client-side performance.
• Experience with AVFoundation and ExoPlayer.
• Track record of improving product experience, performance, or engineering efficiency.
• Ability to lead cross-platform work with cross-functional partners.
• Clear communication, solid technical judgment, and people-focused leadership.
• Bachelor's/Master's in CS or related field or equivalent experience.

What you'll do:

• Lead a cross-platform team responsible for image rendering and video playback across Pinterest apps and web.

• Partner closely with Media Transcoding, Performance, Data Science, Product and Infrastructure teams to improve how media is delivered and experienced across Pinterest.
• Drive initiatives to reduce media load times, improve playback smoothness, and ensure high visual quality at scale.
• Guide the team through platform and architectural decisions, balancing product needs, technical investments, and long-term maintainability.
• Build and grow a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, and developing engineers.
• Raise the bar on engineering excellence through strong operational practices, performance measurement, testing, and release quality.
• Help Pinterest adopt new media technologies and formats in ways that improve the user experience for a global audience.

What we're looking for:

• 9+ years of software engineering experience, including deep expertise in iOS or Android and solid familiarity with web technologies.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience leading strong client or platform engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of client performance, including profiling, instrumentation, and performance optimization.
• Strong technical foundation in media rendering, image delivery, video streaming, and client-side performance.
• Experience working with media frameworks such as AVFoundation and ExoPlayer.
• A track record of delivering meaningful improvements to product experience, system performance, or engineering efficiency.
• Ability to lead work across platforms and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.
• Clear communication skills, strong technical judgment, and a people-focused leadership approach.
• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• We recognize that the ideal environment for work is situational and may differ across departments. What this looks like day-to-day can vary based on the needs of each organization or role.
• This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 2 times/month and therefore needs to be in a commutable distance from one of the following offices: SF or PA.
