Job summary

Resource Innovations, a women-led energy transformation firm, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead energy efficiency and DSM program engineering in Chicago, IL. You will mentor engineers, oversee project reviews, and ensure delivery of technical services that reduce energy use and save costs for industrial and commercial facilities.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical/electrical systems, energy modeling, and economics, plus leadership and client relationship skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, thermal and electrical systems.
• 8+ years in DSM or building energy efficiency.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deliverable deadlines.
• Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to distill complex ideas into concise communication.
• Willingness to travel locally up to ~20%.

Responsibilities

• Support RI’s utility programs under the direction of the Program Manager to achieve energy savings goals.
• Produce high quality deliverables (reports and spreadsheets) with limited QC review.
• Forge and maintain relationships with clients.
• Deliver excellent customer service to commercial and industrial customers and program staff.
• Be a champion for energy efficiency and identify barriers with solutions.
• Maintain quality of deliverables and promote continuous improvement.
• Mentor reviewing engineers and improve their skills.
• Provide timely technical and program feedback and manage expectations.
• Maintain high quality control of deliverables while meeting schedules.
• Complete energy modeling, economic analysis, and simulations to quantify energy impacts.
• Provide technical assistance to support energy efficiency project implementation.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Manager with a strong background in custom and energy management DSM program engineeringto join our dynamic team. As an Engineering Manager with Resource Innovations, you will lead, mentor, and provide oversight of engineers to help customers reduce energy consumption and save money at their facilities by identifying potential energy savings measures, quantifying and summarizing project economics, supporting project implementation, and verifying installation. We are searching for the right mix of leadership, technical ability, program expertise, and interpersonal skills to oversee the delivery of technical services in this region.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support RI’s utility programs under the direction of the Program Manager to achieve program energy savings goals.
• Produce high quality deliverables (reports and spreadsheets) with limited QC review
• Forge and maintain excellent relationships with client(s).
• Deliver excellent customer service to customers (commercial and industrial customers, utility clients, and program staff).
• Be a champion for energy efficiency (projects and the approach): identify barriers and propose solutions.
• Maintain quality of deliverables with limited QC review and promote continuous improvement.
• Manage technical aspects of project reviews and mentor reviewing engineers to improve their skills.
• Provide timely technical and program feedback, listen to customer needs, set expectations appropriately, and deliver what you promise.
• Maintain the highest level of quality control of deliverable products (for your work and others), demonstrating technical excellence, objectivity, and clarity while maintaining project schedules.
• Complete energy modeling, economic analysis, and/or simulation to quantify energy impacts of recommendations.
• Provide technical assistance to support energy efficiency project implementation. Support may include calculations, scope development, implementation details, and/or impacts on operations.
• Mentor and train junior engineers on various energy efficiency projects and energy auditing.
• Write technical reports summarizing results from energy audits and/or retro-commissioning services to quantify savings amounts and incentive payments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or similar
• A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and principals including: HVAC and refrigeration, thermal and fluid systems, motors, lighting and/or other commercial and industrial systems
• 8+ years of experience within the DSM or building efficiency industry
• Ability to workindependentlyand manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets
• Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills
• Ability to effectively distill and convey complex ideas into concise conversation/emails
• Comfortable managing projects and workflows with variable levels of ambiguity
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
• Must be able to travel locally up to approximately 20% of thetime
• Interest and passion in sustainability and/or about making a meaningful impact on the environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, or similar
• P.E. License, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or other relevant certifications.

Compensation & Benefits

Resource Innovations offers competitive salaries based on a candidate's skills, experience and qualifications for the position. The compensation range for the base salary for this position is $110,000-$143,000.In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. The stated salary represents the expected compensation for this position.Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, education and location.
