Job summary

Google's YouTube Mountain View team is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for the Core Media Group. You will lead engineers across multiple teams, define technical direction, and align work with product strategy.

You’ll mentor engineers, manage project goals, and oversee large-scale deployments in audio/video infrastructure, transcoding, and media quality initiatives. This role requires leadership in a matrixed environment and a track record delivering complex systems.

Qualifications

• Experience owning outcomes and decision making, solving ambiguous problems and influencing stakeholders.
• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 3 years of leadership roles, navigating ambiguous projects and setting technical direction.
• 3 years in a complex, matrixed organization.
• 2 years of managing software engineering teams.
• Experience in audio/video industry and backend systems.
• Proven track record of driving cross-functional teams toward large-scale deployment of software systems.

Responsibilities

• Set and communicate team priorities aligning with broader goals across teams.
• Define expectations, provide feedback, and coach engineers for growth.
• Develop mid-term technical goals and roadmaps across multiple teams.
• Design and vet system architectures; contribute code to solve complex problems.
• Review others' code to ensure best practices and quality.
• Oversee deployment of large-scale projects across sites and organizations.
