Job description

About the Team

The ChatGPT Space team is rethinking what work looks like when teams and agents can create together. We are building a shared workspace where a rough idea can become a polished, editable artifact, from Pages, Sheets, and Slides to entirely new kinds of work products.

Our ambition is to build the best place for teams and agents to turn ideas into things they could not make alone. The work should keep evolving after the first draft, drawing on shared context, improving through collaboration, and staying current as a project moves forward.

This is a high-agency team working across product, design, and research. We partner closely with model training teams to shape how frontier models create and edit artifacts, then bring those capabilities into a coherent experience across Pages, files, and tools. The work spans full-stack product engineering, editing and rendering systems, model integration, and collaboration, with a high bar for taste, correctness, and speed.

About the Role

As Engineering Manager, ChatGPT Space, you will lead and grow the product engineering team defining this experience. You will help shape both the product and the team that builds it, turning an ambitious, evolving vision into software people love to use.

You will partner with product and design on what great collaboration between teams and agents should feel like, with research on what models can create, and with infrastructure and enterprise partners on a dependable experience at scale.

This is a role for a leader who has built from zero to one and wants to help define a new category of work. You will bring the technical depth to guide hard decisions and the product judgment to know what is worth building, while developing engineers and giving them the clarity and autonomy to ship.

This role is based in San Francisco.

In this role, you will
  • Lead, manage, and grow a product engineering team, creating clear ownership, supporting engineers' development, and hiring exceptional people
  • Partner with product and design to shape the ChatGPT Space roadmap and translate user needs into focused, well-crafted releases
  • Lead the development of creation, editing, and collaboration experiences for teams and agents, including tools that connect project context and keep work up to date
  • Set technical direction for full-stack product systems, editing and rendering surfaces, and model-facing integrations
  • Partner closely with research teams on artifact tools, model behavior, training needs, and evaluations, turning improvements in model capability into better products
  • Establish a high bar for editor quality, correctness, latency, and reliability, and use user feedback and evaluation results to guide improvements
  • Work with infrastructure and enterprise partners to deliver dependable experiences, align interfaces and ownership, and resolve problems across team boundaries
  • Balance new product development with the technical investments and operational discipline needed to sustain quality as the product grows
  • Build an effective operating cadence that keeps a fast-moving team aligned and gives engineers the context and autonomy to do their best work
You might thrive in this role if you
  • Have a track record of leading engineering teams and helping engineers grow while delivering excellent products
  • Have built products from zero to one and can turn an ambiguous opportunity into a clear direction and practical execution plan
  • Bring strong product judgment and design taste, with a deep interest in how teams and agents create, edit, and collaborate
  • Have strong full-stack engineering fundamentals and can guide technical decisions across frontend, backend, and model-facing systems
  • Work effectively with product, design, research, and infrastructure partners, building alignment without losing momentum
  • Care deeply about craft, performance, correctness, and reliability, and can help a team improve all four while moving quickly
  • Communicate clearly, make thoughtful tradeoffs, and adapt as user needs and model capabilities evolve
  • Want to help define and build a new category of work for teams and agents

Experience as a founder, product manager, or design engineer would be especially relevant, as would a track record of bringing a similarly strong product perspective to engineering leadership.
