Job description

Black Bear Talent is sourcing for their client in Oregon for a highly technical Engineering Manager to lead industrial engineering and costing functions within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing precise SMV standards using GSD methodology, analyzing operation sequences, and conducting plant capacity and workflow assessments to drive production efficiency. The Engineering Manager will interpret BOMs, tech packs, and garment construction specs to support accurate costing, while also overseeing embellishment process analysis.

Job Duties
  • Review daily costing requests to develop accurate production minutes for cutting, sewing, packing, and embellishment processes for new and carryover styles.
  • Establish SMVs using GSD methodology, time studies, and production analysis to support competitive and profitable costing.
  • Create line balances, support line setups, and partner with maintenance to optimize equipment performance and workflow.
  • Evaluate production processes to identify constraints, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Costing, Product Development, Quality, and Production teams to support new style launches and ongoing manufacturing performance.
  • Assist in plant capacity planning, production planning adjustments, and operational problem solving related to sewing methods and line balance.
  • Oversee embellishment costing accuracy and maintain related calculators and standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing, cost savings projects, safety practices, and workforce training programs.
Skills / Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of industrial engineering or production engineering experience within apparel or sporting goods manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of cutting, sewing, and embellishment processes, equipment, and garment construction.
  • Proficiency in GSD systems, time studies, line balancing, and production workflow analysis.
  • Advanced computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and Smartsheets.
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience supporting lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Education / Certification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field. (Required)
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in the apparel/textile manufacturing industry.
  • GSD certification preferred.
