Job summary

Aveox Inc. in California seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead multi-disciplined engineering teams through the full product development life cycle for aerospace and defense electromechanical solutions.

You will plan resources, mentor staff, interface with customers, drive milestones from feasibility to production, and ensure on-time delivery while advancing standard product lines like power converters and motor controllers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience with Power Electronics, Power Conversion and Electric Motors.
  • Proven track record introducing new products into production via a structured NPI process.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering management experience; aerospace/defense preferred.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace Product Development Processes, DO-178/DO-254, ARP4754/5050/5051 and FAA orders.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical products and GD&T.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; able to motivate cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and allocate resources for projects with scheduling, budgets and estimates to meet deadlines.
  • Continuously evolve a high performing engineering team aligned with business objectives.
  • Provide career leadership and development for the engineering staff.
  • Interface with customers to understand requirements, propose design options and resolve issues.
  • Create, track and report milestones from feasibility to production readiness.
  • Provide status updates and address missed targets with root-cause analysis.
  • Support hands-on development for Standard Product lines: Power Converters, Motor Controllers, BLDC Motors.
  • Support Sustaining Engineering and product optimization for Production Products.
  • Establish design reviews and guidelines; conduct design reviews.
  • Set department goals, objectives, and performance metrics to support corporate aims.
  • Formulate long-term standards for the department; ensure on-time completion within budget.
  • Interface with Sales and Operations for product engineering support.
  • Collaborate with Sales to evaluate opportunities and prepare proposals.
  • Foster innovation and design excellence while ensuring safety, manufacturability and cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art in brushless motor, controller, and power electronics design.
  • Support AS9100, Lean and other Aveox quality initiatives/objectives.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager responsible for leading, developing and managing the multi-disciplined engineering operations. This individual leads the staff through the complete project development process for complex electromechanical solutions for aerospace and defense industries.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and allocate appropriate engineering resources for projects and provide scheduling, man-power, asset allocation, budgets and estimates to complete programs by deadline.
  • Continuously evolve a high performing engineering team aligned with the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Provide career leadership and personal development for the engineering team.
  • Interface and communicate with customers to understand their requirements, propose design alternatives, and resolve any product related issues.
  • Create, track and report milestones to senior management throughout the product development life cycle, from early-stage feasibility through all design phases, up to and including qualification testing and transition to production.
  • Provide status updates on the team’s tasks and ensure on time completion. Evaluate missed targets and identify and address root causes such as training requirements, process and methodology improvements.
  • Supports the hands-on development efforts associated with the advancement of Standard Product lines including Power Converters, Motor Controllers and BLDC Motors.
  • Supports Sustaining Engineering efforts and product optimization associated with Production Products. Supports the advancement efforts for Standard Products line.
  • Establish and maintain internal design reviews and guidelines for product development and engineering designs. Conduct design reviews.
  • Establish engineering department goals, objectives, performance metrics, and initiatives to support corporate objectives.
  • Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the department. Assure that department achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame.
  • Primary interface with respect to product engineering activities associated with support of Sales and Operations.
  • Works closely with sales team to evaluate new business opportunities and help prepare proposals and technical compliance matrixes.
  • Create an atmosphere of innovation and design excellence while assuring maximum product safety, manufacturability and cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain an awareness of the state of the art in brushless motor, controller, and power electronics design.
  • Supports AS9100, Lean and other Aveox Quality initiatives/objectives.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and/or combination of education or experience
  • Specific Experience with Power Electronics, Power Conversion and Electric Motors is recommended
  • Proven track record for successfully introducing new products into production through a structured NPI Process
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering management experience; preferably in the aerospace/defense industry
  • Experience with Aerospace Product Development Processes, Requirements Based Engineering, DO-178 Software Development Processes, DO-254 Hardware Development Processes, DO-160, ARP4754, ARP5050, 5051 and FAA Order 8110.49/105
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Familiarity with Electro-mechanical products and GD&T
  • Motor Solve, SolidWorks, Altium and Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent time management, project management, planning and organizational skills to drive and motivate staff by settingpriorities and systematically meeting deadlines and goals
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects of varying size and scope
  • Strong Leadership skills and the ability to influence others within an interdisciplinary environment
  • Superior interpersonal and customer relations skills demonstrating sensitivity to customer needs and ability to work effectively with others to urgently address issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express technical concepts clearly and concisely
  • Significant experience in analyzing business and technical requirements
