Job description

About us

Forus is building an AI-powered network that connects doctors, pharmacies, payers, and biopharma to accelerate new science to patients.

Our platform automates the complexity between a doctor prescribing a medicine and a patient starting treatment, including insurance coverage, financial assistance, and supply chain navigation. We provide this support free to doctors and patients, helping them get life-changing medicine faster, cheaper, and easier. The resulting network enables biopharma companies to design better research, launch new drugs more effectively, and invest in harder-to-treat conditions.

Forus has exceptional product-market fit and is growing rapidly through organic adoption:

  • Accelerating scale: We already support patients across more than 80% of ZIP codes and partner with 5 of the 10 largest biopharma companies in the world.

  • AI-native, durable model: Our business becomes stronger as AI improves, as every new doctor, patient, and partner makes the network more valuable.

  • Backing to build for the long term: We raised $160M+ from leading investors to build an exceptional team and unlock the full scale of the opportunity.

Our number one priority is scaling to market demand. We are looking for individuals who are high horsepower, high throughput, and hyper resourceful to help us increase capacity and grow. We move fast and need to move faster.

If we succeed, science will be the only limit to medicine.

All full-time roles are in person in New York.

About the role

As an Engineering Manager at Forus, you will lead a team that owns a core part of the system that gets patients on therapy. This is a player-coach role. You will write code, review designs, and make architecture calls alongside your team, and you will also be accountable for who is on that team, how fast they ship, and whether the work moves the business.

Every team here builds AI into the product rather than around it. Our systems read unstructured clinical documents, reason about payer policies, operate third-party portals, generate appeals, and route prescriptions, all under real accuracy constraints where being wrong has a cost for a patient.

This is one requirement covering three teams. We will work with you during the process to find the right fit.

Pharma. Builds the products and data systems our biopharma partners depend on, turning what we see across the network into insight that directly impacts how new drugs are launched, studied, and made available to the patients who need them. This team works closely with some of the largest biopharma companies in the world, shaping how they launch and commercialize new medicines.

Provider. Owns everything doctors and their staff touch, from signup and onboarding through the single view of what is happening with every prescription, plus the agentic support experience behind it. This team is measured on activation and time to value: how fast are providers getting to their first prescription, and how many newly activated practices are really using Forus 30 days later. It is the most direct line between engineering work and network growth.

Core Operations. Owns the automation engine behind prior authorizations, benefit verifications, appeals, affordability programs, and pharmacy routing. This is the deepest agent surface at Forus and the team most directly responsible for ensuring that every prescription is a five-star experience.

This is a demanding role, with a high level of autonomy and responsibility. You will be expected to “act like an owner” and commit yourself to Forus’ success. If you are low-ego, hungry to learn, and excited about intense, impactful work that drives both company growth and accelerated career progression, we want to hear from you.

If you join, you will:
  • Own your team’s outcomes end to end, from problem definition and technical design through launch and the measured impact on patient access, provider growth, or operational efficiency.

  • Stay hands-on, writing and reviewing production code, leading architecture decisions, and taking the hardest or most ambiguous problem yourself when that is the fastest path forward.

  • Hire, source, sell, close, and onboard engineers, and own the bar for your team. Recruiting is a first-order part of this job.

  • Grow and mentor the engineers on the team. Set clear expectations, give direct feedback, and make people meaningfully better than they were when they arrived.

  • Work directly with providers, biopharma partners, and our operations team. You will be expected to fully understand and internalize the needs of your users and build for them.

  • Raise the ceiling on how your team builds with AI, and push the team to always be experimenting with more productive ways to develop software.

We’ll be most excited if you:
  • 6+ years building software, with a track record of shipping products that real users depend on

  • 2+ years leading engineers, with clear ownership of both delivery and team health, on top of a strong IC background

  • Full-stack range. You have built and operated the backend systems and the interfaces on top of them, and you can make credible calls across the whole stack

  • A real hiring track record. You have recruited strong engineers who joined in part because you were the one selling the role

  • The ability to go from an ambiguous business problem to a clear, structured, shipped solution with minimal guidance

  • A track record of moving quickly, finding shortcuts, and going to unreasonable lengths to deliver on goals

  • High NPS with your former teammates and your former reports

This is a list of ideal qualifications for this position. If you don’t meet every single one of them, you should still consider applying! We’re excited to work with people from underrepresented backgrounds, and we encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.

Working with us

Forus is based in New York, with our full team working out of a beautiful and spacious office in SoHo.

We run as a high-trust environment with high autonomy, which requires that everyone is fully competent and operates in line with our principles:

  • Do the math. Be rigorous, assume nothing. Break problems down and reason from the ground up. Stay open to changing your mind.

  • Resourceful optimism. Assume problems are solvable. Be audacious. Resist false constraints and push beyond the obvious before deciding.

  • Spit it out. Speak directly, invite critique, avoid equivocation. We want right answers, not comfortable ones. All killer, no filler.

  • Raise the bar. Hold a high standard for your pace and execution, and elevate the performance of the team around you. Mamba mentality.

  • Fight for users. Start with users’ realities, not ours. Resist optimizing for internal convenience over user outcomes.

We provide competitive compensation with meaningful equity (for full-time employees) . Everyone who joins will be a major contributor to our success, and we reflect this through ownership and pay.

We also provide rich benefits to ensure you can focus on creating impact (for full-time employees) :

  • Fully covered medical, vision, and dental insurance.

  • Memberships for One Medical, Talkspace, Teladoc, and Kindbody.

  • Unlimited paid time off (PTO) and 16 weeks of parental leave.

  • 401K plan setup, FSA option, commuter benefits, and DashPass.

  • Lunch at the office every day and Dinner at the office after 6:30 pm.

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Forus (for full-time employees). Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity.
