Job summary

American Woodmark seeks an Engineering Manager to lead project, manufacturing, and maintenance engineers at our Lincolnton plant. You will oversee capital projects, drive safety improvements, cost and lead-time reductions, and introduce new technologies on the shop floor.

You will manage cross-functional teams, ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA/EPA), and develop talent through Lean Six Sigma methodologies in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or related discipline; advanced degree a plus.
  • 5–10 years as an engineer in an industrial environment.
  • 3+ years in an engineering management role.
  • Experience leading capital projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with OSHA/EPA compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a project engineering team to meet plant needs.
  • Lead and manage project engineers to improve safety, cost, and lead time via capital projects.
  • Identify project opportunities and drive ideas from concept to implementation.
  • Oversee automation, process control, and facility automation projects.
  • Act as leader and consultant for plant-level engineering groups.

Experience
  • 5-10 years as an engineer in an industrial environment
  • 3+ years in an engineering management role
  • Completion of a variety of capital projects in an industrial setting
  • Demonstrated project management/leadership roles with complete project ownership
  • Experience managing internal maintenance staff and external contractors on a project basis
  • Previous experience with complying with regulated environments (i.e. OSHA, EPA)
Skills
  • Highly energized and motivated with experience working with teams to implement change.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Lean and Six-Sigma processes
  • Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment
  • Highly-detail oriented and must be able to work independently
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Strong planning, time management, and prioritization skills
Education

Essential Functions
  • Develop and maintain a project engineering team to meet the needs of the plant and successfully execute needed projects
  • Lead and manage a team of project engineers to improve manufacturing operations to improve safety and reduce cost and lead time through capital and technology projects
  • Identify project opportunities, vet ideas, and lead/participate in projects from concept to implementation and commissioning.
  • Types of projects include equipment replacement/upgrade, new application of technologies, and process and equipment development
  • The engineering team has ownership of projects from start to finish:
  • Engineering: user requirements, engineering specifications, test documents, RFP/RFQ, purchase agreements, acceptance criteria
  • Financial: budget development, creation of capital authorization request documents, and execution/tracking of project spending
  • Projects will be for a manufacturing environment and could include: automation/robotic material movement, processing equipment, process control systems, and facility automation systems
  • The Engineering Manager will often act as project manager and lead cross functional teams on high level projects that are critical to the business
  • Act as a leader, influencer, and consultant for the plant-level engineering groups in the manufacturing facilities for capital projects, engineering and maintenance organizational planning, and maintenance activities and methods
