Job summary

Greystone of Lincoln, Inc. (Machining Division) seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the plant's engineering function across process and manufacturing engineering, and new part introduction, with depth in Hydromat rotary transfer and CNC.

You will set engineering standards, drive improvements, partner with Maintenance, Quality, Purchasing, and provide leadership to a team of engineers on the shop floor and in customer discussions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering.
• 7+ years in precision machining or high-volume manufacturing.
• 2+ years in supervisory/leadership role.
• Deep knowledge of CNC and rotary transfer machining; Hydromat preferred.
• Strong GD&T, SPC/Cpk/Ppk, and 8D/FMEA/5-Why.
• Experience leading NPI, PPAP, and customer qualification processes.
• Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks) and ERP/MES systems.
• Willingness to work on the shop floor and in customer discussions.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Purchasing on tooling, materials, and outside services.
• Own engineering change management in ERP/MES.
• Represent engineering in customer reviews, launches, audits (ITAR/CMMC where applicable).
• Develop and manage department capital and tooling budgets.
• Set standards, docs, and training for the team.
• Mentor engineers through cross-functional development.

Engineering Manager

Location: Lincoln, RI (on-site, plant floor)

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager leads the plant's engineering function — process engineering, manufacturing engineering, and new part introduction — across our precision-machining operations, with particular depth in Hydromat rotary transfer and CNC platforms. This role owns the technical direction of the plant: how new work gets brought in and qualified, how existing processes are improved and made more capable, and how the engineering team supports Operations, Quality, Purchasing, and Maintenance day to day. The Engineering Manager builds and leads a team of process and manufacturing engineers, sets engineering standards and priorities, and represents engineering in capital planning and customer‑facing technical discussions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and prioritize the workload of the process and manufacturing engineering team across all active programs and part numbers.


• Own new part introduction (NPI): quoting support, process planning, tooling and fixture strategy, first‑article inspection, and PPAP/customer qualification for new work.


• Drive continuous improvement of existing processes — cycle time, yield, scrap, and process capability (Cpk/Ppk) — across Hydromat rotary transfer, CNC, and secondary operations.


• Partner with Maintenance on equipment reliability and capital equipment strategy, including servo/CNC retrofit and automation investments.


• Partner with Quality Engineering on root cause analysis, corrective action, and closing the loop between process control and inspection/gauging strategy.


• Partner with Purchasing on tooling, material, and outside‑service specifications that affect process capability and cost.


• Own the engineering change process — drawing/process revisions, deviation requests, and documentation control within the ERP/MES system.


• Represent engineering in customer technical reviews, program launches, and audits (including quality and, where applicable, CMMC/ITAR‑related reviews).


• Develop and manage the engineering department's capital and tooling budget, and build the business case for equipment and automation investment.


• Set and maintain engineering standards, documentation practices, and training for the process/manufacturing engineering team.


• Support and mentor engineers moving through cross‑functional development (e.g., process engineers rotating from Purchasing, Quality Engineering, or Automated Inspection roles) toward Manufacturing Engineer or future leadership positions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience in a precision manufacturing environment.


• 7+ years of engineering experience in precision machining or high‑volume manufacturing, including 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.


• Deep working knowledge of CNC and rotary transfer machining processes; Hydromat or comparable rotary transfer experience strongly preferred.


• Strong command of GD&T, process capability analysis (SPC, Cpk/Ppk), and root cause / corrective action methodology (8D, FMEA, 5‑why).


• Experience leading new part introduction, PPAP, and customer qualification processes.


• Proven ability to lead and develop an engineering team, set priorities across competing programs, and manage a budget.


• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks or similar) and ERP/MES systems.


• Comfortable working directly on the shop floor as well as in customer‑facing technical discussions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a defense or aerospace manufacturing environment (ITAR, AS9100, CMMC).


• Experience evaluating or implementing CNC/servo retrofits, automated gauging, or process automation.


• Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification.


• Experience building or developing engineers through structured rotational or leadership development programs.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Primarily a plant‑floor environment with exposure to machining coolant, noise, and moving equipment; safety glasses and required PPE must be worn.


• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 35 lbs.


• Occasional travel may be required for supplier, customer, or equipment vendor visits.
