Lutron Electronics in Humacao, Puerto Rico, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers focused on improving electronics manufacturing efficiency, quality, and performance. You will drive Lean/Six Sigma initiatives, support customer delivery, and push value engineering across processes and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; master's degree is a plus.
  • 12+ years' experience post academics with majority in manufacturing engineering within electronics and/or mechanical assembly industry.
  • 3+ years of experience and knowledge in Process improvements such as Lean, or Six Sigma methodology.
  • 5+ years of people management and development experience
  • Knowledge of SMT, FSS, Wave soldering is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and data analysis tools for manufacturing context.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Global Process Improvements (GPI) to boost efficiency, layout optimization, and lean implementation.
  • Direct Process Engineering for PCBAs, SMT/FSS/Wave soldering, and process development.
  • Oversee Manufacturing Systems Software for production execution (e.g., Digital Manufacturing, PackScan, Label database).
  • Manage ECNs with Corporate engineering and drive quality via 8D e Ishikawa and related tools.
  • Lead Facilities Management, ensuring facility condition and timely maintenance.

Overview

Lutron has an immediate opening for an Engineering Manager at our facility in Humacao, Puerto Rico. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers and technical professionals dedicated to improving the efficiency, quality, and performance of electronics manufacturing processes. You will drive operational excellence initiatives, support customer delivery objectives, and implement value engineering strategies that enhance product quality and manufacturing effectiveness.

As a member of the site leadership team, you will collaborate with cross‑functional partners locally and globally to identify and implement process improvements, develop engineering talent, and strengthen alignment with Lutron's global engineering organization. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on manufacturing operations while contributing to Lutron's continued success as a leader in innovative lighting, shading, and control solutions.

Responsibilities
Global Process Improvements (GPI):
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout by applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and other methodologies.
  • Ensure adherence to Lutron Production Systems and enhances as necessary. The Lutron production system as the collection of corporate standard best practices for operating and improving on the production floor.
Process Engineering Function
  • Lead SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and FSS (Fountain Selective Solder), Wave Solder processes:
  • Process development for Printed Circuit Boards Assemblies (PCBAs) to apply surface mount and through‑hole components
  • Manage equipment and process reliability, efficiency and quality Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
Engineering Support Functions
  • Manage Manufacturing Systems Software required for production execution such as Digital Manufacturing , PackScan, Label database and others
  • Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) working with Corporate engineering functions
  • Manage non‑conformances through quality tools such as 8Ds, Ishikawa, and other appropriate tools
Facilities Management
  • Oversee the functioning of buildings and grounds, ensuring that the facility is in optimal condition.
  • Lead the activities of staff in relation to facility maintenance, ensuring that all maintenance works are done accurately and on time.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 for all degrees earned.
  • 12+ years' experience post academics with majority in manufacturing engineering within electronics and/or mechanical assembly industry.
  • 3+ years of experience and knowledge in Process improvements such as Lean, or Six Sigma methodology.
  • 5+ years of people management and development experience
  • Knowledge of Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Fountain Selective Solder (FSS), Wave is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of excel and other software tools for data analysis.
  • Experience in high mix - low volume manufacturing environments, electronic/mechanical industry preferred.
