Job summary

Fermi America is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the engineering function for Project Matador's HyperGrid campus. You will own engineering standards, design basis, and technical decisions across gas-fired generation, BESS, HV transmission, and data center power infrastructure, from FEED through commissioning.

The role builds and leads a multi-discipline team of principal engineers, drives safety-by-design, manages interfaces with EPCs, OEMs, and regulators, and ensures delivery to

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive engineering experience in power generation or energy infrastructure.
• 7+ years in senior engineering leadership.
• Deep expertise in CCGT, HV transmission, substations, and data center power infrastructure.
• Experience directing EPC contractor engineering deliverables and Owner’s Engineer functions.
• Texas PE license or ability to obtain reciprocity.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the engineering strategy for Project Matador across gas-fired generation, BESS, data center power, and future solar/nuclear.
• Oversee engineering standards, codes, design criteria, and verification requirements across all disciplines.
• Lead the engineering organization structure, resources, and capability development for up to 17 GW capacity.
• Provide technical vision to COO/board on risk, innovation, and delivery strategy.
• Champion safety-by-design, embedding HSSE into all engineering deliverables from concept to commissioning.
• Review and approve FEED, detailed engineering, vendor drawings, and FAT support.
