Job summary

Citi is seeking an Engineering Lead for the Payments Sanctions Platform in a hybrid, U.S. role. You will architect and deliver AI-powered, real-time sanctions screening across high-volume payments, mentoring engineers and partnering with compliance and product teams.

You will guide the evolution of microservices, event-driven pipelines, and scalable architectures while ensuring regulatory alignment and system resilience for Citi's global customers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in enterprise-grade payments or financial crime systems.
• Proven SME in Java applications with Spring Boot/Spring Cloud in sanctions or payments domains.
• Strong background in designing, building, and maintaining large distributed systems.
• Experience with microservices architectures, event-driven patterns, and real-time screening.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, monitoring, and observability tooling in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead integration of sanctions screening functions and real-time transaction workflows.
• Define architecture direction for resilient, AI-powered microservices.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across teams.
• Collaborate with compliance, product, and stakeholders to translate requirements into design.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and risk-awareness in platform decisions.
• Design and implement high-throughput, event-driven pipelines (e.g., Kafka).
