The Engineering Lab Management, Engineering Manager plays a critical role in managing safe, efficient, and scalable laboratory operations that support Southern California Edison’s technology development, testing, and demonstration activities. This position provides strategic and operational leadership across laboratory services, ensuring that lab environments, processes, and partnerships are aligned with organizational objectives and evolving business needs.

You will lead a team focused on developing, documenting, implementing, and maintaining holistic operational processes and policies that support collaboration across multiple departments and stakeholders. You will oversee the team responsible for the full laboratory project portfolio, including long‑term strategic initiatives, lab enhancement efforts, and internal and external Grid Technology Development projects, while ensuring consistency, safety, and compliance across lab operations.

The Engineering Lab Management, Engineering Manager also leads the team in stakeholder engagement and coordination activities, including managing third‑party laboratory services and supporting high‑visibility lab tours and demonstrations. This leader will drive operational excellence, strengthen external partnerships, and enhance SCE’s industry leadership in laboratory‑based innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a select set of engineering and business initiatives to develop grid strategies, determining how the grid is planned, designed, operated, and maintained to operationalize the company's strategy.
  • Develop and maintain a project portfolio management system to prioritize projects, allocate resources, and monitor performance.
  • Evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance project efficiency, cost‑effectiveness, and sustainability, designing and implementing improvement projects and new systems to support site initiatives and improve operational efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and contractors to support project delivery and innovation.
  • Coach engineering teams on professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy, technology and safety program to ensure company advancement toward future vision and the well‑being of employees and contractors involved in engineering projects.
  • Manage the engineering team that provides emergent and routine trouble‑shooting support for plant technical needs. Manage various contract engineers and work with them to ensure consistency and quality in design, delivery milestone dates, and cost.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new equipment and cost‑effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability, and throughput.
  • Develop goals for the engineering team and assign projects/roles to employees that translate Sr. Manager level goals into actionable tasks.
  • Ensure protection of the company’s physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly manage private customer data, proprietary information, and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising engineering work.
  • Experience in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong organizational and process development skills, with experience creating, documenting, and maintaining procedures, workflows, or governance frameworks that improve consistency, efficiency, and cross‑functional alignment.
  • Demonstrated strength in project or program management, including planning, prioritization, execution, and tracking of complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Experience managing both capital and operations and maintenance (O&M) budgets, including planning, forecasting, prioritizing expenditures, and ensuring resources are aligned with business objectives and operational needs.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate cross‑functional efforts, working effectively with engineering, operations, vendors, and leadership to drive outcomes without direct authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing clear documentation, executive level summaries, and facilitating discussions across technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders and external partners, align expectations, and represent organizational capabilities in meetings, reviews, or site visits.
  • Background working in structured, operational, or regulated environments where safety, consistency, and accountability are important, even if not laboratory specific.
  • Experience supporting engineering design and integration of various grid and edge technologies, e.g. energy storage, generators, microgrids, transformers, relays, sensors, etc.
  • Strong understanding and technical capability to deliver advanced technology demonstration projects from concept to field deployment.
  • Experience working hands‑on in a lab environment for instrumentation, testing, and validation of a range of grid and edge technologies (e.g. energy storage, generators, microgrids, transformers, sensors).
Additional Information
  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • The primary work location for this position is Westminster, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at Pomona, CA.
  • Position will require up to 60% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un‑escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
