Position Overview

The Pathfinder Internship Journey is more than a summer job. Just as Three Notch helps clients navigate complex challenges and shape their futures, Pathfinder gives interns the opportunity to discover the discipline and direction that best fit their future.

Engineering interns will contribute to real projects and rotate across various departments and disciplines, gaining exposure to how a project develops from initial planning and investigation through design, field work, construction, and completion. Through mentorship, collaboration, and practical assignments, interns will connect classroom knowledge to professional practice while learning from engineers, scientists, technicians, project managers, and other professionals across the company.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Rotate through selected Three Notch Group departments and disciplines to experience multiple phases of project delivery from start to finish.
  • Contribute to real assignments that reinforce engineering concepts, technical coursework, and professional problem‑solving skills.
  • Assist with the preparation of plans, calculations, reports, exhibits, data summaries, quantity estimates, and other project deliverables under appropriate supervision.
  • Gain exposure to Three Notch Group services, which may include Civil/Site Development, Transportation, Utility, Environmental, Geotechnical and Construction Engineering, Field and Laboratory Services, and UST services.
  • Participate in field visits, observations, inspections, testing, data collection, or construction‑related activities as assigned and permitted.

  • Use applicable engineering and business tools, which may include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, Microsoft Office, and discipline‑specific software.
  • Attend project meetings, team discussions, training sessions, and professional‑development activities.
  • Work with assigned mentors and supervisors to set learning goals, ask questions, receive feedback, and reflect on areas of interest.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate work products, notes, documentation, and assigned project information.
  • Follow company safety, quality, confidentiality, and professional‑conduct requirements.
  • Share observations and takeaways from internship rotations to help identify preferred disciplines, career interests, and next steps.
What Success Looks Like

Success in the Pathfinder Internship Journey means actively engaging in each rotation, applying classroom knowledge to real work, asking thoughtful questions, and building a broader understanding of how projects move from concept to completion. Interns will produce careful work, communicate professionally, follow safety and quality expectations, and contribute positively to each team they join.

By the end of the journey, successful interns will have strengthened their technical and professional skills, developed meaningful connections with mentors and peers, and gained clearer insight into the disciplines and career paths that interest them most. The experience is designed to help each intern move forward with greater confidence, practical knowledge, and a stronger sense of direction.
