Job summary

Oatey invites students to join the 2027 Summer Internship Program as Manufacturing Automation Engineering Intern in Shakopee, Minnesota. The 12‑week program exposes interns to meaningful projects, hands‑on experience, and mentorship from senior engineers within a collaborative team.

You will work on automated equipment fabrication, PLC exposure, startup support, and process improvements while developing professionally and expanding your network within a reputable manufacturing group.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an engineering degree or engineering technician program.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
• Interest in manufacturing process design and production equipment.
• Ability to work within a cross‑functional, multicultural team.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and organize work efficiently.
• Process-oriented thinker.

Responsibilities

• Fabrication of automated equipment for improving production processes across Oatey product lines.
• Support Automation Engineers with wiring, machining, and assembling custom automation; gain exposure to PLC programming and controls.
• Manufacturing process analysis and evaluation for automation.
• Provide startup support for debugging and production.
• Design and document work cells and fixtures to support process improvements

Manufacturing Automation Engineering Intern Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering team, the intern will support Manufacturing Engineering at Cherne Industries in Shakopee, Minnesota. Assignments will contribute to Oatey’s operations while providing the student with hands‑on work experience.

Expectations & Accountabilities

Fabrication of automated equipment for improving production processes across Oatey product lines.

• Support Automation Engineers with wiring, machining, and assembling custom automation; gain exposure to PLC programming and controls.
• Manufacturing process analysis and evaluation for automation.
• Provide startup support for debugging and production.
• Design and document work cells and fixtures to support process improvements

What you’ll need to be successful

• Education: Enrolled in an engineering degree or engineering technician program
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
• Interest in manufacturing process design, material flow, production equipment, work methods, and processes
• Ability to work within a cross‑functional, multicultural team

Qualifications that will set you apart

• Electrical wiring experience is a plus.
• PLC programming experience is a plus.
• Mechanical aptitude/some hands‑on experience is a plus

Compensation Range for the Position:

$21.08 - $26.35 - $31.62 USD

Offer amount determined by experience and review of internal talent.
