Job summary

Carrier Syracuse internship offers a part-time 10 hours/week during Fall 2026 in the Compression Group within Carrier's Mechanical Center of Excellence. You will contribute to mechanical design and thermodynamics, assisting with screw rotors, bearings, seals, pistons, and lab-tested plans.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in an engineering degree with a 3.0+ GPA, eligible to work in the US without sponsorship, and demonstrate initiative and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently pursuing Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in any Engineering field.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design and analysis of components such as screw rotors, rolling element bearings, shaft seals, pistons, and pressure containing machined castings.
  • Perform Vapor-cycle refrigeration thermodynamic analysis.
  • Work closely with lab personnel to develop & execute laboratory test plans.
  • Document design and development procedures in Engineering Standard Work.
  • Utilize AI tools to drive process optimization and improve operational efficiency.

The Carrier experience offers interns an environment that provides practical, challenging, and meaningful on-the-job work experience, and the opportunity to apply knowledge and demonstrate strengths in efforts to assist Carrier in achieving its business strategy. You will learn and apply skills in compression technology (centrifugal, reciprocating, rotary, scroll & screw), mechanical design, and thermodynamics. You will grow professionally to become knowledgeable on compression development and application for HVAC&R equipment.**Key Responsibilities*** Mechanical design and analysis of components such as screw rotors, rolling element bearings, shaft seals, pistons, and pressure containing machined castings* Perform Vapor-cycle refrigeration thermodynamic analysis* Work closely with lab personnel to develop & execute laboratory test plans* Document design and development procedures in Engineering Standard Work* Utilize AI tools and techniques to drive process optimization and improve operational efficiency* Assist in troubleshooting compressor performance and field issues.**Basic Qualifications*** Must be currently pursuing Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in any Engineering field.* Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.* Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.**Preferred Qualifications*** Thermodynamics, mechanical assembly, CAD/3D software related coursework or previous internships preferred* Self-driven and proactive* Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels* Team player and willing to collaborate with others on projects* Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities**Pay Range**The annual salary for this position is between $43,500.00 - $87,500.00 annually.
