Job summary

System Strategy, Inc. (SSI) in Metro Detroit seeks an Engineering Intern to assist in systems engineering and MBSE for complex systems development.

You will collaborate with SSI colleagues, contribute to life cycle processes from stakeholder needs through validation, and learn to read SysML, UML, BPMN, and other modeling approaches. You will support modeling activities, generate reports and briefings, and work to improve program performance through modeling best practices, while building

Qualifications

• 0-5+ years of engineering experience.
• Interest in engineering or another STEM discipline.
• Desire to build analytical and synthetical problem-solving skills.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Strong technical and information systems skills.

Responsibilities

• Apply model-based systems engineering methods for systems and enterprise architecture development.
• Capture documented knowledge and programmatic plans in system models.
• Capture knowledge of SMEs and team members in system models including assumptions, rationale, requirements, and decisions.
• Support modeling activities within the SSI team for internal projects.
• Collaborate closely with SSI team members to learn and improve best practices.
• Generate reports, capability briefings, plans, and other required products.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Engineering Intern will provide support in systems engineering and analysis for complex systems development. Collaborate and build trusting relationships with SSI colleagues through delivery excellence. Contribute to team activities across life cycle systems engineering processes from stakeholder needs through validation. Analyzes complex systems, processes, and organizational architectures to improve development activities and outcomes. Assess current state and collaborate with team members to provide high-value solutions. Study Systems Engineering best practices to improve program performance. Support modeling complex systems and and how to apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methods. Learn to read and use relevant modeling language(s) (SysML, UML, BPMN, Graphs, et al.). Facilitate shared human understanding and organizational learning through proficient communication, professional development, and delivery excellence.

INITIAL ENGAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications/Requirements

• 0 - 5+ years of engineering experience
• Interest in engineering or another STEM discipline
• Desire to build analytical and synthetical problem-solving skills
• US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
• Strong technical and information systems skills and comfortable taking on new challenges

Desired Qualifications

• Pursuing a STEM undergraduate degree
• Knowledge of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and Object Management Group (OMG)
• Knowledge of Jira, Confluence, MS Teams, MagicDraw/Cameo, Windchill, Teamcenter, DOORs, and other software tools
