Job summary

Oregon Department of Transportation in Roseburg seeks a Professional Geologist 1 – Engineering Geologist to monitor geologic hazards impacting roadway safety and support transportation projects along the Pacific Northwest regions. This on-site role requires licensure and a valid driver’s license.

You will work with a team focused on keeping roadways safe for the traveling public, with opportunities on U.S. 101 and other major routes in western Oregon.

Qualifications

• A Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) license from the Oregon State Board of Geologist Examiners.
• Must obtain Oregon licensure within one year of hire if registered in another state.
• Valid US driver license with acceptable driving record.
• Experience in landslide mitigation and transportation-related geology is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Monitor geologic hazards affecting roadway safety from our Roseburg office.
• Contribute to projects across the Klamath mountain province, western cascades and Oregon coast range to keep roadways safe and operable.

Salary Range: $6,717 – $10,414 / month

The role:

If you’re looking for a position that will develop and challenge your geology skills, then look no further! Join our Roseburg office as an engineering geologist! In this on-site role, you will play an essential role in monitoring the geologic hazards that impact roadway safety. You will also become part of a team of professionals dedicated to keeping our roadway systems operational and safe for the traveling public.

In this position, you will work in person on transportation projects throughout the Klamath mountain geologic province, western cascades and the Oregon coast range. With a vital transportation corridor (U.S. 101), a major north‑south connector (Interstate 5), separating the region, ancient landforms and heavy rainfall, there’s no shortage of exciting geology work in this position!

Special qualifications:

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
