Catawba Valley Engineering & Testing is looking for motivated, detail-oriented individuals to join our team as an Engineering Field Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in construction, engineering, quality assurance, or gaining hands‑on experience with real‑world, high‑impact projects across the region.

What You’ll Do

As an Engineering Field Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring construction quality and compliance on active job sites. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing field testing, sampling, observations, and inspections of construction materials
  • Conducting Construction Materials Testing (CMT) on concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, structural steel, fireproofing, and more
  • Completing mathematical calculations, test data reduction, and preparing accurate field and laboratory documentation
  • Communicating daily with contractors, project managers, engineers, and CVET staff
  • Representing CVET professionally while supporting safe, high‑quality construction practices
What We’re Looking For

We want candidates who are reliable, safety‑minded, and ready to work outdoors in a fast‑paced environment. Qualified applicants should have:

  • A high school diploma or GED (BSCE or EI candidates are also encouraged to apply)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform basic math and follow detailed testing procedures
  • A willingness to work in varying weather conditions
  • Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs (mostly team lifts due to weight/shape)
  • Availability for variable hours and overtime when needed
  • Age 21+ with a clean driving record (required to operate a company vehicle)
  • Prior CMT/Special Inspections experience or certifications are a plus. CVET offers competitive compensation for applicable industry certifications.
