Job summary

Daikin Applied Americas seeks an Engineering Electrical Technician V to advance HVAC chiller and compressor programs. You will lead electrical fieldwork, troubleshoot PLCs and MCCs, and guide contractors and technicians in a high-autonomy role within the CBU Lab team in Plymouth, MN.

The role emphasizes designing and maintaining electrical infrastructures, ensuring compliance with codes, and contributing to capital projects while mentoring peers.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent training.
  • Experience with industrial/manufacturing electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, safety standards, and safe work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting of existing electrical systems (PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, sensors/instruments, valves/motors).
  • Coach/train technicians and maintenance staff in the test lab.
  • Support design, installation, operation, and maintenance of facility electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, grounding, emergency power).
  • Collaborate with Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, and Operations to minimize downtime.
  • Review electrical drawings and specifications for new projects and upgrades.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and utility providers on electrical work.

Daikin Applied Americas is seeking an Engineering Electrical Technician V to support our HVAC (Chiller & Compressor) development programs, technician installs, tests calibrates, and repairs electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards, by performing the following responsibilities: You will have a high degree of autonomy and be relied upon to provide support and informal leadership to contractors, maintenance, technicians, and project teams. As a system owner/expert for electrical infrastructure as well as electrical support on Chiller and Compressor, you will be part of the CBU Lab operation team that supports the operations and will be influential in creating a strategic vision for the future. Location: Plymouth, MN

What you will do:
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting of existing electrical systems (PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, sensors/instruments, valves/motors)
  • Provide coaching/training to technicians and maintenance staff at the test laboratory
  • Support the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of current and new facility electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, and emergency power systems
  • Collaborate with Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, and Operations teams to support plant operations and minimize downtime
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues affecting building systems, utilities, and laboratory equipment
  • Review electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications for new projects and facility upgrades
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and utility providers on electrical work and service interruptions
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and internal policies
  • Support capital projects, renovations, and expansions by providing electrical engineering input and field oversight
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and reliability improvements
  • Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for electrical failures
  • Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records related to electrical systems
System Maintenance
  • Ensure existing electrical systems are properly maintained
  • Analyze the current electrical systems and install base to ensure continued maintainability and support; develop a digital roadmap or masterplan where necessary
Project Management & Execution
  • Conduct estimation, and execution of medium to large scale electrical projects
  • Develop and implement project descriptions, plans timelines resource requirements costs etc.
  • Interface with vendors and contractors
  • Oversee installations and verify compliance with applicable standards
  • Responsibility for electrical and automation portions of projects
Strategy & Mentorship
  • Share expertise and provide training to build the competencies of electrical skills to peers and lower-level employees
  • Develop electrical strategies for facility expansions and ongoing support

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical training and experience
  • Experience working with industrial or manufacturing electrical systems
  • Familiarity with medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safe work practices
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting of electrical systems

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting facilities or utilities in a manufacturing and/or testing environment
  • Experience managing or overseeing electrical contractors
  • Rockwell Automation ControlLogix programming experience
  • LabVIEW Programming experience
  • Holds state issued Master Electrician certification
  • Journeyman experience with more than 7 years

The typical hourly rate for this position ranges from $35.24 to $58.04 per hour in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
