Job Description
General Overview: At an entry level, performs drafting. This position develops competence by performing structured work assignments and receives instruction, guidance and direction from supervisor, manager and/or more experienced colleagues. This position focuses on either drafting or engineering support duties, or performs a combination of the following duties.
- Perform field observations.
- Prepare and update as‑built drawings based on field edits.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, construction drawings and other technical information.
- Use computer‑aided design software and equipment to prepare detailed engineering drawings, maps and graphs from provided materials such as previous drawings, layouts, detailed sketches and standard references. Clearly indicate revisions.
- File drawings and drawing update documentation according to standard procedures.
- Assist in drafting solicitation documents using established procedures, formats and templates to support procurement and contract activities.
- Assist with field and/or office research related to field measurements, historical engineering drawings, equipment databases, microfilm, inventory, electronic document management system (EDMS) records and other technical records to design equipment and layouts, as well as to produce equipment ratings and facility statistics.
- Prepare basic specifications, materials and fixed capital unit (FCU) lists.
- Assist in setting up work orders and requisition entries.
- Perform data entry in the departmental engineering database.
- Prepare basic reports related to projects, work plans, equipment, assets and budgets. Assist with preparing more complex reports.
- Operate equipment such as plotters, printers, copiers and scanners.
- Gather engineering information by traveling independently to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
- One or more years of experience interpreting technical drawings/documents and performing technical analysis or drafting using computer‑aided design software.
- A degree in computer‑aided design or relevant field may be substituted per *** guidelines for certain years of experience.
- Driver’s license if traveling independently to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.).

- Knowledge of engineering principles.
- Knowledge of computer‑aided drafting principles, standards and techniques.
- Knowledge of electronic document management systems (EDMS).
- Knowledge of work management systems.
- Basic skill in computer‑aided drafting.
- Basic skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints.
- Basic skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
- Skill in reading and interpreting technical information.
- Skill in the use of test equipment and/or other specialized tools.
- Skill in analyzing and solving problems.
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Skill in operating plotters, printers, copiers and scanners.
- Ability to perform accurate data entry.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Work Environment
- Work hours are spent in an office, industrial, electrical substation and/or plant environment.
- Work involves exposure to noise.
- Work involves exposure to various and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
Physical Demands
- Work involves frequent finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard and mouse.
- Work involves climbing, crawling, crouching or other non‑sitting positions in performing field duties less than 20% of the time.
- Work involves standing and/or walking in performing field duties less than 20% of the time.
