THE OPPORTUNITY
Abbott is seeking a visionary technology leader to lead the global platform software engineering organization responsible for the AlinIQ Digital Health Platform. This role owns engineering execution, platform architecture, cloud strategy, cybersecurity, interoperability, AI enablement, data platforms, developer experience, and operational excellence across the foundational technology ecosystem supporting Abbott Diagnostics’ operational and clinical digital solutions, including AlinIQ Insight.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with a strong foundation in software architecture, distributed systems, cloud computing, and enterprise-scale software development.
  • Fifteen or more years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering, platform engineering, enterprise architecture, cloud technologies, or digital product development, including leadership responsibility for large, mission‑critical software platforms.
  • Ten or more years of experience leading global engineering organizations comprising software engineers, architects, cloud engineers, data engineers, DevOps engineers, cybersecurity professionals, quality engineers, and technical program leaders across multiple geographic regions.
  • Five or more years of experience working with onshore and offshore development teams with a history of effective collaboration and outcomes‑based partnership.
  • Demonstrated success architecting, building, deploying, and operating enterprise‑grade SaaS, cloud‑native, hybrid‑cloud, and data‑intensive platforms supporting large‑scale commercial software products and digital ecosystems.
  • Proven experience developing platform capabilities and shared services that enable multiple product teams to accelerate delivery through reusable infrastructure, platform APIs, identity services, data services, and developer tooling.
  • Deep expertise in cloud‑native architectures, microservices, containerization, Kubernetes, distributed systems, API‑first development, event‑driven architectures, platform engineering, and modern software design patterns.
  • Significant experience leading modernization initiatives that transform legacy applications, client‑server systems, and monolithic architectures into scalable, resilient, and highly available cloud‑native solutions.
  • Five or more years of experience leading a team of User Experience (UX) and product designers with deep understanding of modern design system principles, and human factors.
  • Strong working knowledge of Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud platforms, including cloud operations, observability, Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, resilience engineering, and platform reliability practices.
  • Extensive experience implementing Agile development methodologies, DevOps, DevSecOps, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, automated testing, release engineering, and software lifecycle management processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data engineering, enterprise data platforms, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, No SQL and cloud‑native databases, data lakes, data warehouses, data governance, and advanced analytics infrastructures.
  • Proven experience establishing secure software development lifecycle practices including threat modeling, vulnerability management, penetration testing, software supply chain security, identity and access management, and cloud security controls.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating systems that protect Protected Health Information (PHI), Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and sensitive healthcare data through security‑by‑design and privacy‑by‑design principles.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements, including HIPAA, GDPR, auditability requirements, encryption standards, data governance, and access management controls.
  • Experience developing and delivering regulated software products within healthcare, diagnostics, medical devices, life sciences, or similarly regulated industries, with knowledge of design controls, risk management, verification and validation, traceability, and audit readiness.
  • Exceptional executive communication, strategic thinking, organizational leadership, talent development, financial planning, vendor management, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions at the executive level.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering Management, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading engineering organizations supporting Digital Health Platforms, Healthcare Informatics, Laboratory Diagnostics Informatics, Healthcare IT, Medical Devices, Clinical Software, Connected Diagnostics, or Enterprise Healthcare Ecosystems.
  • Deep understanding of digital healthcare transformation, including cloud-based healthcare platforms, interoperability services, analytics platforms, remote diagnostics, connected care, and software‑enabled clinical workflows.
  • Experience establishing enterprise platform strategies that support multiple product portfolios through shared cloud services, common architectures, developer platforms, reusable components, and standardized engineering practices.
  • Expertise in healthcare interoperability standards and integration frameworks including HL7, FHIR, DICOM, REST APIs, API gateways, event streaming technologies, and healthcare data exchange platforms.
  • Demonstrated success developing enterprise data platforms that support diagnostics intelligence, healthcare analytics, workflow optimization, operational reporting, and AI‑enabled decision support capabilities.
  • Experience implementing Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Generative AI, predictive analytics, intelligent automation, and advanced decision‑support capabilities within regulated healthcare environments.
  • Experience establishing enterprise AI governance frameworks addressing explainability, validation, model risk management, privacy, security, bias mitigation, and responsible AI practices.
  • Strong understanding of user‑centered design, usability engineering, accessibility standards, design systems, and developer experience practices that improve adoption and platform effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, FDA Quality System Regulations, EU MDR, and global healthcare cybersecurity guidance applicable to software‑intensive medical technologies.
  • Experience creating internal developer platforms and engineering enablement capabilities that improve engineering productivity, reliability, deployment velocity, and operational excellence across large organizations.
  • Demonstrated success building and transforming high‑performing global engineering organizations focused on innovation, accountability, customer success, continuous improvement, technical excellence, and measurable business outcomes.

The base pay for this position is $171,300.00 – $342,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
