Job summary

Hydrite Chemical Co. is seeking an Engineering Co-op to gain hands-on experience on engineering projects within a chemical processing environment.

The role requires taking a semester off (Spring or Fall 2027) to participate in the program, providing exposure to capital projects and maintenance activities. You will provide technical analysis, assist with project implementations, and perform engineering clerical duties while exploring cost-saving and efficiency improvements.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in accredited university pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • Preferably Mechanical or Chemical.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Microsoft PowerPoint (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical analysis for projects as assigned.
  • Assist in implementation of capital projects and maintenance activities.
  • Perform engineering clerical-type duties as assigned.
  • Investigate and implement process-related cost saving improvements (waste reduction, cycle-time reduction, material qualification, scale-up, shelf-life).
  • Investigate cycle time improvements (batch time reduction, throughput increase, cleanout time reduction, quality improvements).
  • Explore site energy reduction and sustainability opportunities.
  • Support workload balance and back-up across Hydrite departments.

Engineering Co-Op

The primary purpose of this position is to gain practical work experience on engineering projects. This position will uphold the Hydrite “Standards of Excellence” through continuous commitment to customer satisfaction, both internal and external.

This position requires students to take either the Spring or Fall 2027 semester off from classes to complete the co-op.

As Engineering Co-Op, primary responsibilities include:
  • Provide technical analysis for projects as assigned.
  • Assist in implementation of capital projects and maintenance activities, where appropriate.
  • Perform engineering clerical-type duties as assigned.
  • Investigate, evaluate and implement process related cost saving improvements such as waste reduction, cycle-time reduction, lower cost raw material qualification, scale‑up, and shelf‑life improvements.
  • Investigate, evaluate and implement process related cycle time improvements such as batch process time reduction, continuous process throughput increase, pre/post-batch cleanout time reduction, and quality improvement intended to accomplish capacity generation.
  • Investigate, evaluate and implement site energy reduction and/or sustainability improvement opportunities.
  • Works with other staff members to maintain workload balances. Provides back-up support as necessary/directed.
  • Supports effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the branch team.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
  • This position reports to the Plant Engineering team.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL CRITERIA
  • Enrollment in accredited university in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required. Preferably – Mechanical or Chemical.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Power Point (or equivalent software applications)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills preferred. (Candidate may have opportunity to lead installation crews on capital projects)
