Job summary

IMI plc in Rockford, IL is seeking an Engineering Associate (Temporary) to support new customer applications and sustain existing product designs. You will help select, evaluate, and modify IMI products to meet customer needs, and design proposals, sketches, and tests for prototypes.

You’ll work onsite in Rockford, collaborating with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure reliable, efficient solutions and to update legacy designs to current standards.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with fluid power products.
  • Experience in design and testing.
  • Experience with CAD software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Execute changes in product designs to meet customer requirements, including updates to BOMs and manufacturing docs.
  • Create design proposals, sketches, and drawings for internal and customer approval and testing of prototypes.
  • Test prototypes and update legacy designs to current standards.
  • Gain exposure to engineering in a machine shop environment.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, quoting, operations, supply chain, and quality to ensure designs are implemented.
  • Evaluate opportunities for engineering projects and document communications.
  • Promote process improvements within assigned areas.
  • Ensure designs meet reliability and process capability criteria.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Role Overview

The Engineering Associate (Temporary)uses technical knowledge to provide support for new customer applications and sustaining current product designs. The Engineering Associate (Temporary) will aid the selection, evaluation, and modification of IMI products to meet our customer’s needs. This role applies knowledge of fluid control products to recommend and design new products into various applications.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Creating design proposals, sketches, and drawings for internal and customer approval and testing of product prototypes, and updating legacy designs to new standards.

Work Environment: Onsite in Rockford, IL
Pay range: $32/hr

Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute changes in product designs to meet customer requirements, including executing solid modeling in Solidworks and Autodesk, executing engineering drawing changes, and making necessary updates in Bills of Material and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Gain exposure to engineering in a machine shop environment.
  • Review opportunites to improve design for manufacturing of machined & assembled components.
  • Cooperate with teammembers in manufacturing engineering, quoting, operations, supply chain, & quality to ensure designs are successfully implemented.
  • Receive, evaluate, prioritize, and process all opportunities for engineering projects. Complete them in the requested time and document all correspondence.
  • Participate in and promote process improvements within assigned areas.
  • Ensure customer needs are met through product prototype testing.
  • Ensures design meet reliability and process capability criteria.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Critical Competencies for Success
  • Pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • Experience with fluid power products desired.
  • Experience in design and testing.
  • Experince with CAD software desired.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent complex problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolants, and moving equipment.
