Job summary

Advanced Infrastructure Design, Inc. (AID) seeks a Field Engineering Assistant in Hamilton, NJ to perform geophysical utility location and subsurface evaluation using RF locators, GPR, and EMI equipment.

You will also document findings and contribute to sketches, spreadsheets, reports, and CAD map presentations. The role requires field work, occasional night shifts and weekends, and collaboration with a senior engineer.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, geotechnical or physics fields.
• Proficiency of AutoCAD and basic knowledge of Civil 3D.
• Proficiency in computer and MS Office.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Able to carry 50 Ib of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Locate subsurface utilities with geophysical equipment and record research.
• Prepare sketches, spreadsheets, and written reports; present findings on CAD maps.
• Work under supervision of a senior engineer; flexibility for day/night shifts and weekends.

AID owns and operates an array of NDT equipment, including a Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS), Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), various air‑launched and ground‑ coupled Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) antennas, and many others such as a high‑speed profiler and walking profilers. In addition, AID runs its own soils, asphalt, and concrete materials testing laboratory.

Job Description

This full time Field Engineering Assistant position will primarily involve geophysical/electronic location and designation of subsurface utilities using surface geophysical equipment, including RF Pipe and Cable Locators, Ground Penetrating Radar, electromagnetic induction devices, record research, and documenting the work through the preparation of sketches, spreadsheets, and written reports. The ability to work minimal supervision is required. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work in the field, performing both utility mark out (locating, subsurface utility evaluation) and geophysical surveying activities. This position also entails office work, including, but not limited to, assisting with proposal and invoice preparation, using geophysical equipment software to interpret field data, and providing written reports with findings as well as presenting findings on CAD maps/plans. The candidate will perform this work mostly under the supervision of a senior engineer. The potential candidate must be open to work during day/night shifts and occasionally on the weekends. He/she will also be expected to assist in other areas of work, as needs dictate. Working in other NDT areas might be expected.

Salary: $60,000/yr - $78,000/yr, depending on experience and credentials.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degrees in engineering, geotechnical or physics fields.
• Proficiency of AutoCAD and basic knowledge of Civil 3D.

Preference Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degrees in geotechnical or physics fields. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is a plus.
• 2 years of experience in Civil Engineering fields
• Any experience in NDT and SUE fields is a plus
• Familiarity with CI/ASCE 38-22 standards and technical utility investigation is a plus.
• Familiarity in geophysical testing and analysis methods, including EMI and GPR is a plus.
