Job summary

Iridium Communications Inc. is seeking an Engineer I, Software Developer to contribute to SDA project software development and maintenance. The role involves enhancing code for scalability and efficiency, within an Agile team using Atlassian tools, and supporting build environments for releases.

You will collaborate to deliver high-quality software, adhere to project schedules, communicate clearly, and participate in documentation and process improvements as part of a dynamic space program team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline.
  • Exposure to Agile based teams.
  • Working knowledge of one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, Java).
  • Familiarity with version control tools (Git) and basic debugging practices.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to convey ideas clearly.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities
What We’re Looking For:

If you enjoy learning about and working with breakthrough technologies, and are enthusiastic about working in the space industry, then you will be excited about the Engineer I, Software Developer opening with Iridium for a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a Software Engineer on the SDA program, you will gain experience in software development and maintenance used tomonitor/schedule/operatea constellation of satellites. You will work to deliver high-quality work projects/deliverables to completion within the larger development team to support cross-functional efforts across all areas of ground system software development.

This position requires an active/current Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

What You’ll Do:
  • Work collaboratively with your team to develop and enhance software related to the SDA project
  • Assistin developing optimized code for both scalability and performance
  • Work within the Agile/Scrum framework for software development (Atlassian tool suite desired)
  • Support efforts in creating and/ormaintainingbuild environments for software products
  • Work within teamobjectivestoassistin planning and executing software releases per stakeholder/program schedules and budgets
  • Participate in updating issue/feature data in Atlassian Project/Software tracking tools
  • Follow existing Iridium processes for Change Control, Prioritization, Risk Management, Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) Management, Build, and Test software deployments and use knowledge toassistin development of process/procedure documentation materials
  • Edit, structure, and present data, concepts, and arguments clearly and succinctly, through briefings and documentation
Qualifications
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, or other engineering discipline
  • Exposure to Agile based teams
  • Working knowledge of one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, Java, or similar)
  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git) and basic debugging practices
  • Strong communicationskills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Can cultivate meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while being open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentor you
  • The ability tothink outside the boxto help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help when needed
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed to you
  • A motivation to achieve outcomes and results
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with mostly no errors
  • Must be able to prioritize your tasks, be self-aware enough toidentifyand correct mistakes, and not be afraid to ask for help when needed
  • Be active in seeking out ways to improve yourself and gain new knowledge, and be enthusiastic in sharing knowledge with others
We’ll also need you to:
  • Work in the office at least 3 or more days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders
  • Be a U.S. citizen

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.

Under Iridium’s Hybrid Work Policy, employees are expected to work at least three days per week (approximately 60%) in an Iridium office to support collaboration, relationship-building, and professional growth.

Base Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000 USD

Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors and this range represents an estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Base salary is only one part of our compensation package for this role.You may also be eligible for company stock and annual bonus. Employee benefits also include medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage; 401(k) retirement plan options; paid time off and paid holidays; paid parental leave; and other discounts and perks.
