Job summary

Progress Rail in Winston-Salem, NC, is seeking a Quality Engineer II to lead complex quality initiatives and mentor junior engineers. You will align quality systems with business goals, drive CAPA, and partner with manufacturing and program teams to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.

In this role you will develop and optimize QA procedures, analyze data for improvement, participate in audits, and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams to maintain top-level

Qualifications

• Previous Quality Management experience;
• Experience with manufacturing and production processes and principles;
• Basic knowledge of AIAG Core Tools (e.g., APQP, PPAP, FMEA);
• Problem-solving tools: 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram;
• Basic understanding of ISO 9001 principles;
• Statistical basic knowledge;
• Technical writing and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead quality investigations and CAPA activities.
• Develop and improve quality control plans, inspection methods, and testing protocols.

The Quality Engineer is responsible for interacting with program management, internal and external customers, and manufacturing employees to create the company's quality standards and testing systems. The senior-level professional is responsible for leading complex quality initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring strategic alignment of quality systems with business goals.

Key Job Elements

Qualifications, Experience, Education

Engineer I

• Excellent communication skills;
• Basic knowledge of AIAG Core Tools (e.g., APQP, PPAP, FMEA);

• Basic understanding of ISO 9001 principles;
• Statistical basic knowledge;
• Technical writing and documentation skills.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional lifting objects up to 35 lbs.
• Periodically walking short and long distances.
• Metatarsal safety shoes are required as well as safety glasses.
