Reports To

The Project Engineer receives daily instructions and assignments from the Project Manager assigned to the project.

Basic Duties

• To assist Project Manager with engineering requirement and paperwork associated with private, public, heavy highway, structures, asphalt or other disciplines.

Job Duties

• Perform all duties within the guidelines set forth in the policies and procedures manual.
• Assist Project Manager with change order administration and project correspondence.
• Review all “daily reports” and verify their correctness, bring to the attention of the Project manager and/or senior superintendent any discrepancies.
• Maintain a daily log of all pay quantities, interface daily with client to confirm correctness of all pay quantities and supply information to contact administration department for preparation of subcontract payables.
• Monitor and revise weekly project schedule and supply scheduling coordinator with information updates.
• Assist the Project Manager with utility conflicts and notify client concerning delays to the controlling operation.
• Assist Project Manager with change orders and estimate cost of change orders.
• Assist estimating department with bid preparations when needed.
• Create an atmosphere whereby personnel in the company are encouraged to improve their skills and maintain a high level of morale for themselves and other employees.
• Develop a cooperative working relationship with all management, seeking their comments and suggestions.
• Cooperate with the human resources department and risk management department; be knowledgeable as to all aspects of EEO and safety responsibilities; comply with these requirements and insist upon compliance among all subordinates.
• Assist the project manager with conducting continuous evaluations on the following items: cost and yields, material yields, plans, and schedules, salaries, promotions, job assignments, equipment needs, personnel needs, on-the-job training program, job safety, safety and problems, change of recommendations to operations manager.
• Assist Project Manager with monitoring all costs and yield associated with the project and be alert to changes in the relationship of the two, which might be an adverse indication and then bring to the attention of the Project Manager.
• Assist Project Manager with the scheduling and purchase of all material and coordinate delivery to achieve the optimal use of material, labor, and equipment.
• Assure all work undertaken complies with all local laws, ordinances, and EPA regulations concerning the erection of structures and related activities.
• Maintain close contact and a good working relationship with the general public, engineers, inspectors, and customers to facilitate job progress, and to promote a positive company image; develop a courteous and considerate attitude of assigned personnel towards these groups.

Knowledge

Broad knowledge of civil engineering and/or construction management; position requires the use of complicated drawings, and a variety of precision measuring instruments.

Experience

Over 1 year, and up to 3 years to become familiar with all aspects associated with private, public, heavy highway, structures, asphalt, or other construction disciplines.
