Job summary

Power Factors is seeking a Power Plant Control Engineer to join our global team to deliver grid integration and control engineering for solar, storage, wind, and hybrid sites during execution. You will implement new assets on our Unity REMS platform and interact with customers and grid operators to gather requirements and perform analyses.

The role requires experience with SCADA systems, power engineering principles, and modelling tools such as Digsilent, PSSE or PSCAD.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience as SCADA Engineer.
• Knowledge of operation principles for RES (Solar, Wind, Storage or Hybrid).
• Good knowledge of digital and analog signals.
• Experience with industrial protocols (MODBUS, DNP3, OPC).
• Experience with PLCs; basic networking knowledge.
• Experience with Linux OS, terminal and shell.
• Experience modelling power control systems in Digsilent, PSSE or PSCAD.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Analyze requirements for Grid integration, including Grid Code compliance for solar, storage, wind and hybrid plants.
• Escalate new requirements to product teams for implementation.
• Design the flow for new control applications and algorithms.
• Prepare project-specific control narratives and reports.
• Commission the project’s power plant controller and conduct Grid Code tests.
• Provide remote troubleshooting to on-site engineers and interface with grid operators.

About The Role

We are now looking for a Power Plant Control Engineer (PPC) to join our dynamic global team. As part of the Controls & Grid Integration team, your mission is to deliver grid integration and power plant control related engineering tasks for solar, storage and hybrid sites during the projects execution phase. You will work on the implementation of new renewable assets such as solar, storage, wind or hybrid sites onto our Platform. You will interact with customers and possibly grid operators to gather information, perform requirement analysis, provide design studies and complete grid integration/compliance tests, submitting reports.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements for Grid integration, including applicable Grid Code, of solar, storage, wind and hybrid power plants
• Escalate new requirements to internal product teams for implementation
• Design the flow for new control applications
• Contribute to the mathematical modelling of the Power Plant Control Algorithms
• Prepare the project-specific control narrative
• Commission the project’s power plant controller
• Conduct Grid Code compliance tests (usually remote), including data analysis and reporting
• Develop application studies for new grid integration and power plant control installations
• Be the main technical interface to Grid Operators and client specialists
• Provide remote troubleshooting help to on-site engineers

Required Qualifications

• MS/BS in Electrical or Automation Engineering with technical background in power system engineering
• 2+ years experience as SCADA Engineer
• Knowledge of principle of operation of RES (Solar, Wind, Storage or Hybrid sites)
• Good knowledge of digital and analog signals
• Experience with industrial protocols (MODBUS, DNP3, OPC, etc)
• Experience with PLCsBasic knowledge of local networks
• Experience with Linux OS, use of terminal and shell
• Experience modelling power control systems in Digsilent, PSSE or PSCAD
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
