Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Palmdale, CA, seeks an Associate Engineer Packaging (Level 1 or 2) to develop and maintain innovative packaging solutions across programs and sites.

Responsibilities include designing packaging and material handling, contributing to risk reviews, and creating BOEs while ensuring GMP documentation and ability to obtain a Secret clearance. Travel 10% is required; relocation assistance may be available.

  • Develop GMP-compliant documentation management.

Job description

Position Summary

Associate Engineer Packaging (Level 1 or Level 2) based in Palmdale, CA. Responsible for developing and maintaining innovative packaging solutions in support of all programs and sites across the sector, including specialized containers, pallets, material handling devices, shipping fixtures, shadow boards, and parts protection devices. May report to the GSC Aeronautics Systems Packaging, Handling, Storage, & Transportability Manager.

Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required for start: No; Clearance type: Secret. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design packaging and material handling solutions to ensure safe storage, movement, and transport of items to end destinations.
  • Participate in program or homeroom meetings with internal and/or external representatives concerning material, manufacturing, programmatic risks, constraints, and design reviews.
  • Create Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for program proposal efforts that align with PHS&T’s statement of work and meet cost, schedule, delivery, and affordability goals.
  • Lead in determining packaging specifications based on product characteristics, cost limitations, quality and legal requirements, and protection needs, considering resistance to external variables such as moisture, corrosive chemicals, temperature variations, light, heat, rough handling, and tampering.
  • Develop documentation management and ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Basic Qualifications

Associate Engineer Packaging Level 1:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Knowledge of design techniques & principles utilizing 3D/2D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as CATIA, NX, or similar in aerospace or similar industrial industries.
  • Experience working with suppliers and procurement.
  • Experience managing implementation and delivery of engineering solutions for Government customers.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret level clearance within a reasonable amount of time after hired date.

Engineer Packaging Level 2:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM or a Master’s degree.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in packaging engineering, manufacturing engineering, or supply chain, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of project management experience.
  • Experience working with suppliers and procurement.
  • Experience managing implementation and delivery of engineering solutions for Government customers.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret level clearance within a reasonable amount of time after hired date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) & International Air Transport Association (IATA) requirements.
  • Detailed understanding of various methods of parts protection and shipment of equipment via land, air, and sea.
Compensation & Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $69,400.00 - $104,000.00.

Secondary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00.

Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and for Vice President or Director positions, long‑term incentives.
