Materials Engineer I Woodward’s Windsor, Colorado location is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Materials Engineer 1 to join our team. In this entry-level role, you will perform materials testing, evaluation, and certification to support our engineering and manufacturing processes. You’ll gain valuable hands‑on experience in areas such as materials analysis, failure investigation, and qualification of components and processes, while collaborating with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Materials Testing and Evaluation: Conducts tests such as microstructure evaluation, residual stress, and hardness testing on various metals.
  • Qualification and Certification: Performs qualification of braze joints, weld joints, EDM surfaces, coating, consumables, heat treatments, and platings
  • Contamination Analysis: Produces data for metals analysis and collaborates with others for material identification and interpretation.
  • Failure Analysis: Conducts failure analyses focused on specific, single‑component issues using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and optical instruments. Prepares report that documents findings and corrective actions.
  • Learning and Development: Gains knowledge and skills by learning from more senior materials engineers.
  • Tensile and Fatigue Testing: Performs mechanical testing of various materials at room and elevated temperatures. Captures and interprets data to share with engineering and product design.
Key Skills
  • Basic engineering knowledge and understanding of component and material functions, with familiarity in common technical references like ASM Handbooks.
  • Ability to learn in‑house special processes, engineering drawings, and associated standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with growing proficiency in technical writing and presentations tailored to the audience.
  • Basic problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and analytical calculation abilities.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the theory behind quantitative measurement techniques.
  • Proficiency in using PCs and associated software, with the ability to learn equipment‑specific and application‑specific tools.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of internal information management systems and familiarity with job‑relevant documents and procedures.

  • 4 Year Bachelors BS degree
