Job summary

Applied Controls, Inc. is seeking a senior leader to head the Solutions Group, driving successful automation projects from concept through commissioning and customer acceptance.

You will mentor a high-performing team, partner with Sales to shape scope, schedules, and pricing, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery aligned with customer expectations. You will also lead technical assurance, assist in building BOMs, and expand the Solutions portfolio while maintaining strong customer relationships

• Experience overseeing design-to-implementation workflows for automation projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the Solutions team and oversee task assignment.
• Support solutions sales with technical assurances and proposals.
• Manage project status, budgets, and supplier relationships.
• Guide system design across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software domains.
• Maintain and expand electro‑mechanical knowledge of products and safety.
• Train and mentor internal staff on Applied Controls systems.

Provide overall leadership and accountability for the Solutions Group, overseeing the successful execution of systems projects from concept and design through implementation, commissioning, and customer acceptance. Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing solutions team while fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

Partner closely with Sales to define project scope, schedules, and pricing, and to develop accurate cost estimates and competitive proposals. Drive the growth and profitability of the solutions business by ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with customer expectations. Support the expansion of the Solutions portfolio.

Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations

• Provide leadership to the Solutions team through daily presence, weekly update meetings, assigning projects and tasks, and providing feedback.
• Provide sales support to Solutions business:
  1. Provide technical assurance and explanation to customer when necessary
  2. Approve solutions proposals written by solutions sales engineer, including full scope of work and project description
  3. Assist solutions sales engineer in building system BOM and pricing including hourly estimates
• Manage Solutions Activities:
  1. Assign projects to a “lead” engineer and work with the engineer to facilitate every Solutions project
  2. Track and maintain active project status and communicate weekly to sales team and customers the status
  3. Purchase and monitor all consumable shop resources
  4. Work with purchasing to order and monitor components for customer projects
  5. Maintain an organized shop
• System Design – Assign projects to design team, monitor and provide daily feedback:
  1. Ability to understand and provide guidance on all aspects of Solutions automation projects (Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, software, etc.)
  2. Provide feasibility studies including prototyping components
• Broad range of electro‑mechanical technical and product knowledge:
  1. Capability to wire small control cabinets
  2. Capability to construct the designed solutions mechanical components
  3. Strong understanding of electro‑mechanical systems
  4. Maintain a current understanding of Applied Controls primary product lines
  5. Understanding of industry safety requirements
• Customer Management:
  1. Maintain strong relations with Solutions Group customers
  2. Ensure regular status updates and contact communication with customers
  3. Provide high level customer service
• Company Knowledge:
  1. Understand all position appropriate company & vendor processes and systems (P21, TDF, EbSync, Siemens, Sick, UR)
  2. Meeting etiquette (understand who’s participating, who should participate, meeting location, expected outcome, who’s documenting or notetaking, follow‑up actions)
• Product training:
  1. Maintain training certifications as required
  2. Support off‑site and on‑site trainings as requiredSupport and train internal employees on Applied controls systems and hardware
