Job Summary

The site maintenance mechanic repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatics, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain and repair all production equipment: including but not limited to, pumps, pasteurizers, atomizers, evaporators, dryers, valves, baggers, robot etc.
  • Maintain and repair all support equipment: including but not limited to, boiler, air-compressors, ammonia compressors, thermal storage units, condensers, vacuum pumps, ammonia systems, air conditioning units, sewer meters, conductivity meters, water meters, etc.
  • Must have a working knowledge of and experience in plant maintenance operations.
  • Be an active part of the emergency response team. This includes but is not limited to the following: Emergency evacuation team; personnel rescue hazardous waste response/disposal team; permit required confined space entrant/observer, wear authorized respiratory protection (i.e., Air Purifying Respirator (APR) or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA); first aid / CPR approved; approved forklift operator.
  • Handling of chemicals for support equipment operation. Chemical testing of boiler feed water, condensate, cooling tower water, ice bank chilled water, plant process water.
  • Daily utilities reading.
  • Ordering/maintaining inventories for all parts to service all equipment plant wide.
  • Fabrication and manufacturing of equipment for production needs; product and process piping, sanitary equipment, steam lines, chemical lines, pneumatic lines, etc. ensuring such fabrication and manufacturing is in accordance with the applicable safety regulations.
  • Documentation of all schematic and diagram changes to keep plant record current.
  • Responsible for working with a minimum amount of supervision in all key areas.
  • Responsible for care and safe keeping of tools supplied by CDI.
  • Responsible for reporting on a daily basis work orders and activity reports (all time is to be accountable).
  • Required to climb stairs, ladders and work in confined spaces.
  • Employee will be subject to temperatures ranging from 50 degrees F to 130 degrees F.
  • Responsible for all work being done in a timely fashion and done properly.
  • Responsible for coaching and training teammates and participating in on the job, buddy training.
  • Follow all company Policies.
  • Support and enforce SQF / QA, GMP, Safety policies and procedures, and production needs. “Food Safety and Quality” are the responsibilities of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Computer skills are helpful.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • Minimum four years’ experience with proficiency of a journey level status or equivalent.

Language Skills

  • English is required as the written and spoken language.
  • A well-modulated tonal volume is required with excellent diction skills needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a forklift operator license.
  • Must possess and maintain a first responder certificate.

Equipment

  • General knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, gloves, and safety glasses must be used in the performance of duties. Proper lifting techniques must be employed at all times.

  • May be required to enter a confined space.

  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will do all three. Must be able to stand on feet for at least a two-hour consecutive time period and up to 8-12 hours.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic lifts up to 55 pounds on a repetitive basis. Employee will be expected, each workday to carry 60 pounds on a repetitive basis. Occasional lifting/carrying above 60 pounds may be required as well.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic frequently pushes and pulls up to, but not limited to, 60 pounds in a repetitive manner.
  • Bending/Stooping: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will bend and stoop often.
  • Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will sometimes squat. Occasional kneeling/crawling may be required.
  • Twisting/Turning: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will often twist and turn while carrying.
  • Climbing/Balancing: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will occasionally climb and/or balance.
  • Reaching: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will frequently reach in a repetitive manner.
  • Grasping/Manipulating: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will frequently grasp and manipulate in a repetitive manner.
