Job summary

Horrocks in Las Vegas, NV is seeking a Roadway/Site Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support planning, design, and delivery of roadway and site development projects while growing technical and professional skills under licensed PEs.

You will work with AutoCAD Civil 3D, assist with road design, drainage, utilities, and coordination, and contribute to reports, cost estimates, and client meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• EIT certification or ability to obtain within defined timeframe is required.
• 2–4 years of civil engineering experience with roadway/transportation design preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; Bluebeam and MS Office preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of roadway design plans, profiles, and cross sections using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Support design tasks related to grading, drainage, utilities, water, and sewer systems.
• Prepare calculations, quantities, and exhibits for design development.
• Assist with development of technical memoranda, design plans, specs, and reports.
• Support permitting and agency coordination across jurisdictions.
• Contribute to cost estimates and takeoffs at various project stages.
• Perform quality checks on plans under supervision of a Professional Engineer.
• Coordinate with project team across multiple disciplines.
• Participate in client and internal coordination meetings.

As a Roadway/Site Engineer-in-Training (EIT), you will support the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and site development projects while continuing to grow your technical and professional skills under the guidance of licensed Professional Engineers.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Assist with the preparation of roadway design plans, profiles, and cross sections using AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Support design tasks related to grading, drainage, utilities, water, and sewer systems
• Prepare calculations, quantities, and exhibits in support of design development
• Assist with the development of technical memoranda, design plans, specifications, and reports
• Support permitting and agency coordination efforts in various jurisdictions
• Contribute to engineer’s opinions of probable cost and quantity takeoffs at various project stages
• Perform quality control checks on plans and documents under the supervision of a Professional Engineer
• Coordinate with project team members across multiple disciplines
• Participate in client meetings, internal coordination meetings, and project reviews as appropriate
• Provide construction support services, including responding to RFIs and assisting with construction observation tasks

Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
• 2–4 years of relevant civil engineering experience, with an emphasis on roadway or transportation design
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office preferred
• Familiarity with roadway geometry, drainage design, and utility coordination concepts
• Ability to follow established design standards, specifications, and agency requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Organized, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow technically and professionally
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain positive working relationships
• Exposure to municipal or state transportation projects preferred
• Familiarity with local, state, or federal agency design standards preferred
• Experience supporting both public and private sector projects preferred
