Job summary

Certerra is a national provider of testing, inspection, and certification services with a focus on innovation and sustainable development. This entry-level Engineer-in-Training role supports civil projects for a diverse client base from our Dallas/Fort Worth office.

You'll work with project engineers and senior staff to plan, design, and execute infrastructure developments, with opportunities to pursue FE licensure and PE progression as you gain experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• Actively preparing for or scheduled to take the FE exam.
• Solid understanding of civil engineering fundamentals in structural, transportation, or water resources.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our civil engineering team. This entry-level position is ideal for a recent civil engineering graduate who is preparing to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. The EIT will support project engineers and senior staff in the planning, design, and execution of infrastructure and development projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and analysis of civil engineering projects, including site development, drainage, roadway, and utility systems
• Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports
• Support the development of construction documents using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D)
• Conduct site visits to observe construction progress and gather field data

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surveyors, planners, and environmental specialists

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (recent graduate preferred)
• Actively preparing for or scheduled to take theFundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
• Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, including structural, transportation, or water resources fundamentals
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software is preferred
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship or co-op experience in civil engineering
• Exposure to design standards such as AASHTO, TxDOT, or local municipal guidelines
• Familiarity with hydrology/hydraulics software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS)
