The role emphasizes outdoor work, collaboration, and growth within a national bridge inspection team. A bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering and EIT licensure are required or expected by Spring 2027.

The Bridges and Structures Practice is seeking an Engineer-in-Training: Bridge Inspection in Seattle or Olympia, WA, Portland or Salem, OR, or Boise, ID.

What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform condition inspections of existing bridges and tunnels.
  • Generate and edit bridge and tunnel inspection reports.
  • Organize information for use in project documents.
  • Assist with the development of bridge load rating calculations.
  • Assist with bridge rehabilitation and maintenance projects.
  • Perform structural analyses and develop calculations using the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation and other codes.
  • Assist with the development of engineering drawing details.
  • Assist with bridge preservation projects by creating concept reports.
  • Develop engineering quantity and cost estimates.
  • Assist with the development of project specifications.
  • Review of contractor submittals during construction.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering or completing degree in Spring 2027.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in bridge inspection, load rating, or design.
  • Licensed Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
  • Proficiency in Mathcad and Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word).
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in drafting tools like MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D.
  • Successful completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (or ability to complete within the first year).
  • Knowledge of and experience with bridge inspection and bridge management software, such as AASHTOWare BrM and AssetIntel InspectX.
  • Experience with bridge load rating/analysis software like AASHTOWare BrR, CSiBridge, SAP2000, Midas Civil, PG Super/WSDOT BridgeLink, Conspan, or LPile.
