Job summary

Duquesne Light Company in Pittsburgh seeks an Engineer III - Distribution to deliver distribution engineering plans, design and review calculations for 23kV and below, and ensure timely project delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, 3 years of experience, and a work model that is hybrid from Woods Run Complex. Collaboration with multiple teams is essential to meet codes and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, EET, or related field; ABET-accredited college/university preferred.
• Three (3) years’ experience required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, engineer, design, maintain, prepare and review estimates, permits, schedules, construction orders, specifications, quotes, proposals, drawings and license applications.
• Ensure engineering work adheres to distribution standards, materials, and applicable codes (NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEE) and federal/state/local codes.
• Perform pole loading/guying calculations, cable pulling calculations and transformer loading studies.
• Consult with superiors, peers, and vendors to obtain design and cost information.
• Act as Project Manager with limited guidance for assigned projects and review contractor work.
• Coordinate with Distribution Designers to meet Duquesne Light and NESC standards.
• Review material and cost estimates from Distribution Designers and attend customer project site meetings.

The Engineer III - Distribution provides the timely delivery of distribution engineering plans by designing, planning, and reviewing calculations for 23KV and below. Work with various departments to ensure that new business and work plan projects are delivered on time.

Location:

Hybrid, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at Woods Run Complex

Responsibilities:

• For all projects assigned: plan, engineer, design, maintain, prepare and review estimates, permits, schedules, construction orders, specifications, quotes, proposals, drawings, and license applications.
• For engineering projects associated with area and level of expertise including distribution, standards/materials, and maintenance, ensure sound engineering principles are employed and in accordance with all applicable codes (NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEE) and federal, state, and local codes.
• Performs moderately technical pole loading/guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, and transformer loading studies.
• Consults with and receives advice from superiors, peers, and vendors to becomes thoroughly familiar with an assignment and to obtain necessary design and cost information.
• With limited guidance, acts as a Project Manager for assigned projects, and reviews engineering contractor work.
• Work with Distribution Designers to ensure that overhead, underground, and sub transmission engineering designs are engineered according to Duquesne Light and NESC Standards, obtaining guidance and advice for more complex issues.
• Review the Distribution Designers material and cost estimates.
• Attend customer project site meetings.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering , EET, or related field (or equivalent education and experience). ABET-accredited college/university preferred
• Three (3) years’ experience required
