Job summary

RTX, based in Tucson, AZ, is seeking an Engineer II – Warhead to advance warhead design and missile integration. This onsite role requires a DoD Secret clearance, citizenship, and collaboration across Raytheon Product Lines with government and subcontractor partners.

You will develop SOWs, perform hydrocode simulations, and support testing and evaluation while engaging with customers to define requirements and ensure technical rigor throughout all deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) required.
  • Minimum two years in warhead development from concept to test.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance (citizenship required).

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced technologies to warhead integration into missile systems.
  • Coordinate development and production programs across Raytheon Product Lines.
  • Interface with customers to identify user needs.
  • Resolve engineering issues with suppliers and conduct technical reviews.
  • Conduct hydrocode simulations and lethality analyses.
  • Support warhead design, testing, evaluation, and SOW creation.
  • Develop CIDS and TDP documentation.
  • Assist in fact-finding and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure technical rigor across deliverables.
  • Travel periodically to government and subcontractor facilities.

The Energetics and Propulsion Department is an engineering organization in the Hardware Engineering Directorate. This Department is responsible for the full spectrum of warhead, fuzing, and propulsion designs/technology, including power systems, ignition, and all other weapon initiation safety systems technology. The department is seeking to hire an Engineer II – Warhead.


The Engineer II – Warhead role is in Tucson, AZ and is an onsite position.


What You Will Do


  • Apply or develop highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts to warhead integration into missile systems

  • Involvement with both development and production programs across Raytheon Product Lines

  • Interface with the Customer to identify user needs

  • Work with customers, subcontractors and suppliers to resolve engineering issues, develop new products and hold technical reviews

  • Conduct hydrocode simulation and lethality analysis

  • Support warhead design, analysis, test, and evaluation

  • Develop Statements of Work (SOWs)

  • Develop Critical Item Development Specifications (CIDS) and Technical Data Packages (TDP)

  • Support fact-finding and contract negotiations

  • Ensure technical rigor and depth of all deliverables

  • Will travel periodically to government and subcontractor facilities


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum two (2) years of prior relevant experience. An Advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years experience

  • A minimum of two (2) year of experience in the development of warheads from conceptual design through final test / assembly

  • Project Management as applied to team interaction and deliverables

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance


Desired Qualifications


  • Advanced degree

  • Four (4) or more years of directly related experience in warhead design, analysis and development from conceptual design through final test and assembly, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead collaborative efforts with other technical disciplines including structural, thermal, and aerodynamics

  • Willingness to travel, including internationally, to provide supplier support

  • Technical writing skills in the area of detailed design requirements, test requirements, statements of work, white paper and technical presentations

  • Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW)

  • Working knowledge or experience with either missile design or development, production support and integration

  • Experience with DoD customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership

  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
