Job description

Engineer II – Sewer Schedule: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (hours may vary)

What You'll Do

You’ll lead sewer infrastructure projects from concept through construction, guiding teams, driving decisions, and delivering work that directly impacts public health and city growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead planning, design, and construction of sewer capital improvement projects
  • Coordinate with operations, contractors, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies
  • Oversee system improvements including lift stations, septic elimination, and inflow reduction
  • Supervise staff, assign work, and ensure quality and progress across projects
  • Develop budgets, track expenditures, and support long‑term system planning
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop Sewer Program staff
  • Support hiring, training, and performance management
  • Provide leadership coverage for Engineering management as needed
What You Bring | Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related ABET‑accredited program
  • Seven years of relevant engineering experience
  • Strong experience in infrastructure or utility project delivery
Preferred Certifications
  • Indiana Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Valid Indiana Driver's License
Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Sewer system design, hydraulics, and construction practices
  • Environmental and regulatory compliance (NPDES, consent decree)
  • AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and hydraulic modeling tools
