Job description

At Air Manufacturing Innovation (Air MI), we deliver on Nike's most daring dream: giving every athlete the unparalleled sensation of walking on air. Since Nike introduced the Air sole in 1979, no technology has become more synonymous with Nike than Air. Our teams engineer, make, and perfect Nike's most advanced footwear components. Masters of teamwork, we challenge assumptions to get faster, drive efficiency, and fine-tune technology to deliver quality performance solutions. At our state-of-the-art facilities located globally, Air MI is taking Air to places that we never thought possible.

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

As a Product Development Engineer II, Design, you will join the Design Engineering team at Air Manufacturing Innovation and report to the Manager, Product Development Engineering, Design. You will collaborate multi-functionally with Project Management, Materials, Product Engineering, Equipment Controls and Safety, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Tooling Manufacturing teams.

You will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional partners to develop solutions for new Nike Air products and improve existing manufacturing processes. Success in this role requires a hands‑on approach, strong collaboration, and the ability to balance multiple engineering priorities.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Product Development Engineer II, Design to join a team of engineers responsible for commercializing and manufacturing Nike Air products. This role works cross-functionally on projects ranging from new products, processes, and materials to continuous improvement of our existing product portfolio.

The ideal candidate will apply experience in 3D CAD design, engineering fundamentals, tooling design, and manufacturing to develop practical solutions from concept through release. They will leverage established design practices, the experience of teammates, and hands‑on learning to solve engineering problems and support successful implementation in manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is also curious, adaptable, solution‑oriented, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. This is an individual contributor role with responsibility for executing assigned design work while collaborating with more experienced engineers and cross‑functional partners on complex technical challenges.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or another related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, and training.
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, product development, tooling design, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency using 3D CAD software for product, part, and tooling design; NX experience is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerancing, and design for manufacturing.
  • Experience using PDM software and revision‑control processes; Teamcenter experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing engineering assignments and priorities.
  • A detailed and methodical approach to problem‑solving, with the ability to analyze technical problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with teammates and partners across functions and organizational levels.
  • Experience with high‑volume manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma tools, tooling fabrication, or additive manufacturing is preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with thermoforming and plastic product manufacturing is a plus.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

You will design parts and tooling for new product development and continuous improvement initiatives supporting Nike Air manufacturing. Working with experienced engineers and cross‑functional partners, you will help translate product and manufacturing requirements into design solutions that can be successfully fabricated, implemented, and supported in production.

  • Design parts and tooling for new product development, progressing designs from concept through detailed documentation and release.
  • Develop and implement tooling and design changes that improve manufacturing performance, reliability, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, GD&T, design documentation, and released design data.
  • Collaborate with Tooling Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, Materials, and other partners to align technical requirements, priorities, and timelines.
  • Support the development and commercialization of new Air products, including prototype builds, tooling trials, design iterations, and production implementation.
  • Provide hands‑on engineering support on the manufacturing floor to troubleshoot product, tooling, and manufacturing issues.
  • Analyze problems using available information, develop practical solutions, and consider downstream manufacturing impacts when making design decisions.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical problem‑solving, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of design standards, best practices, standard work, and engineering documentation.
