Job summary

Stanley Black & Decker's Global Tools & Storage team in Towson, MD is seeking an Engineer to support the design process from concept through prototyping and testing. You will develop 3D models, perform stack-ups and analyses, and work with cross-functional teams to define customer requirements.

The ideal candidate has a Mechanical Engineering degree with 1–3+ years of hands-on experience, proficiency in CAD and FEA, and a readiness for a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 1-3+ years of experience.
  • Computer literate; MS Word, Power Point, Excel, 2D/3D CAD, FEA.
  • Ability to dissect a problem and create a robust solution.
  • Enjoys hands-on building, testing and debugging tools throughout the cycle.
  • Quality: use of statistical tools, process capability, DOE's, stack-ups, GD&T.
  • Coordination of internal resources for testing and analysis.
  • Enjoys fast-paced design cycles and a dynamic work environment; travel possible.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully support the design process to achieve quality, performance, schedule and cost objectives in a cross-functional environment.
  • Perform hands-on concept development, prototyping, product testing, data collection and specification definition.
  • Carry out stack-ups and system analysis to ensure assembly and functionality throughout its lifetime.
  • Investigate design issues and test failures, implement corrective actions to components.
  • Construct 3D models to evaluate design options.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify customer requirements and develop tests.
  • Work in a core team to develop a product from start to finish with proper documentation.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 1-3+ years of experience.

What You'll Do

As an Engineer, you'll be part of our Global Tools & Storage team located in Towson, MD. Specifically, you'll:

  • Successfully support the design process to achieve all quality, performance, schedule and cost objectives in a cross-functional environment.
  • Perform hands-on concept development, proto-typing, product testing, data collection and definition of product specifications.
  • Carry out stack-ups and system analysis to ensure product assembly and functionality remain consistent throughout its lifetime.
  • Investigate design issues & test failures, and identify, recommend and implement corrective actions to components.
  • Construct 3D models to evaluate design options
  • Be involved with cross-functional teams (Product Marketing, Reliability, Field Research) to help identify and define customer requirements and develop the tests to duplicate end user tasks
  • Work in a core team of 3-4 engineers/designers to develop a product from start to finish, assure appropriate documentation is developed and maintained for component designs and engineering test results
  • Support the builds of engineering, manufacturing and pilot lots to ensure that the products are assembled and tested in the correct way to ensure long term product quality
  • Support the Engineering process for all engineering requirements to deliver a product that meets our history of guaranteed tough products
