Job summary

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa is seeking an Engineer II to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems across the property. The role supports safe, efficient operation and guest comfort with minimal supervision.

You will inspect facilities, perform structural repairs, service equipment, and ensure compliance with safety standards. Prior hotel/casino experience is strongly preferred; 24/7 shifts are required.

Qualifications

The Engineer II performs intermediate-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work throughout Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. This position supports the safe and efficient operation of the property’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, ensuring a comfortable and reliable environment for guests and team members. The Engineer II works with minimal supervision, applying technical knowledge to maintain facility equipment and resolve operational issues in compliance with established safety and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs intermediate-level maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems throughout the property.
  • Inspects buildings and equipment to ensure proper functionality across all departments.
  • Performs structural repairs on both interior and exterior building components.
  • Maintains and services HVAC systems and other mechanical support systems.
  • Performs carpentry repairs and fabrication; welds and repairs railings; primes and paints building interiors, exteriors, signage, and related surfaces.
  • Installs and finishes drywall and other wall coverings.
  • Repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures including faucets, flush valves, shut-off valves, pipes, fittings, drains, and toilets.
  • Installs and services equipment such as kitchen appliances, water heaters, refrigerators, and air conditioning units.
  • Maintains and repairs electrical systems; assists with the installation of circuits and electrical infrastructure.
  • Ensures furniture, cabinetry, and fixtures are safe, functional, and meet operational standards.
  • Measures, cuts, installs, and repairs carpet, tile, and other flooring materials throughout the property.
  • Maintains and restores property amenities including chairs, booths, card tables, upholstered items, and bedding.
  • Reupholsters fabrics, mixes custom stains for color matching, strips and finishes surfaces, and builds or rebuilds furnishings using specialized power tools.
  • Utilizes joinery techniques to repair major furniture damage using clamps and adhesives; applies fillers such as wood putty, plastic putty, or lacquer sticks to correct surface imperfections.
  • Safely operates a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of commercial buildings and facility systems.
  • Understanding of maintenance practices and procedures related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, painting, drywall, upholstery, flooring, tile, paving, and grading.
  • Familiarity with the operation and basic maintenance of facility-related vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of maintenance-related parts, materials, and supply inventory processes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Technical certification or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, engineering, or a skilled trade required.
  • Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Experience conducting preventive maintenance and responding to service requests in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
  • Prior experience in a hotel, resort, casino, or similar 24/7 operational environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Ability to work independently and lead small tasks or projects as assigned.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in person and over radio with supervisors, team members, and other departments; able to follow detailed instructions and relay technical issues accurately.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts, carries, and moves tools, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasional heavier lifting may be required using carts or with team assistance.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to operate hand and power tools, testing equipment, and control systems; must be capable of making precise mechanical adjustments and repairs.
  • Mobility: Frequently walks, climbs ladders, bends, kneels, and crawls in mechanical areas, rooftops, basements, and tight spaces; must be able to access various facility areas and perform physical labor in challenging environments.
  • Stationary Work: Occasionally remains seated for short periods to complete documentation, review maintenance schedules, or use computerized maintenance systems.
  • Tool Operation: Regular use of electrical testers, HVAC tools, plumbing and mechanical repair equipment, ladders, lifts, and maintenance tracking software; responsible for safe and effective tool operation.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires near and far vision to read gauges, blueprints, technical manuals, and electronic displays; must be able to detect issues with equipment or systems and evaluate safety concerns.
  • Working Conditions: Routinely works indoors and outdoors, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, and facility infrastructure areas; exposed to loud noise, high/low temperatures, dust, moving machinery, hazardous materials, and a smoking environment in or near the casino and guest areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
