Job summary

Puget Sound Energy's South Regional Public Improvement Team seeks an Engineer I - Public Improvement South to assist in preparing plans, cost estimates, and design studies under supervision. You will apply basic engineering principles on projects that relocate facilities and support emergency response efforts.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in engineering, with entry-level to 3 years of experience, and may hold or pursue an EIT.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or ABET-accredited program required (or equivalent per NCEES).
  • Entry level to three years of engineering design, specifications, or system studies experience.

Responsibilities

  • Applies basic engineering principles and calculations.
  • Selects appropriate engineering methods and interprets data for discrepancies.
  • Prepares cost estimates and specifications; conducts studies and designs.
  • Plans and documents project budgets with proper records.
  • Verifies field measurements of installations and equipment.
  • Supports emergency response work as needed.
  • This position will be dual fuel (electric and gas).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Please note that the Senior Engineer - Public Improvement South (6642) & Engineer III - Public Improvement South (6643) & Engineer II - Public Improvement South (6644) & Engineer I - Public Improvement South (6645) are linked job postings for one opening.

The South Regional Public Improvement Team at PSE partners with local jurisdictions to support project development and help navigate impacts to PSE facilities. When necessary, the team coordinates the relocation of PSE facilities to accommodate project requirements. Our team consists of project managers, engineers, and engineering specialists who work collaboratively to support jurisdictions and deliver successful project outcomes.

Under direct supervision of more experienced staff, conducts simple analyses in support of the preparation of engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, system studies, and other such evaluations. Works on assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities that require application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Supports emergency response operations when needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Applies basic engineering principles, practices, theories and methods and use of commonly applied engineering approaches and calculations.
  • Uses judgment in the selection and application of engineering methods, the modification of standard models, designs, or procedures, and when correlating data and recognizing discrepancies in results.
  • Prepares cost estimates and specifications, performs engineering studies and designs, conducts office and field research.
  • Plans and develops project budgets with appropriate project documentation.
  • Provides verification and field measurements of new equipment and system installations.
  • Acquires performance data from new and existing equipment or systems and validates against design parameters.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • This position will be duel fuel (both electric and gas).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • ABET accredited, or completed NCEES Credentials evaluated, Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering discipline. An EIT or FE certificate may qualify in lieu of ABET accreditation.
  • Entry level to three (3) years of experience in engineering design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies. Other prior non-engineering work experience may be considered for individuals at this level.
Desired Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to acquire an EIT certificate.
  • Knowledge of engineering economics and analysis.
  • Experience in project cost estimating or scheduling.
  • Work or internship experience in utility engineering or related fields.

The pay range for this position is$80,200.00-$115,800.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
