Job summary

HNTB is seeking a Mechanical Engineering professional to assist in producing and modifying design calculations, reports, and drawings for complex infrastructure projects. You will work within a team to develop conceptual and detailed designs, perform HVAC load analyses, and prepare piping hydraulics calculations across projects in the Oakland area.

Responsibilities include coordinating design details, conducting code-compliant analyses, and supporting QA/QC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • Experience with mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire life safety systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with REVIT and AutoCAD or similar CAD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and modify design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications.
  • Conduct research, develop designs and deliver project components with the team.
  • Assist with load analyses, duct design and code compliance for HVAC systems.
  • Prepare process and instrumentation diagrams for control systems.

This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients.

You will work on mechanical engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction.

Required Skills
  • Independently identifies and analyzing mechanical design issues, including: alternatives analysis and life cycle analysis
  • Capable of representing the team to our clients
  • Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within HVAC, plumbing and fire life safety systems
  • Conducts load analysis and duct design for HVAC systems including code
  • Performs calculations and hydraulic analyses related to fluid flow within piping systems
  • Prepares process and instrumentation diagrams for control systems including control sequence of operations for pumping and ventilation systems
  • Perform design reviews and quality assurance/control
  • Knowledgeable in REVIT and AutoCAD
What You'll Do
  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
  • Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
What You'll Bring
  • Exhibits an understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline.
  • Attains knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with MicroStation and/or AutoCad or other software.
What We Prefer
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification

The approximate pay range for the California San Francisco Bay Area is $83,008.49 - $124,512.74. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
