Invenergy LLC in Chicago is seeking an Engineer, Interconnections and Grid Analysis to perform technical analysis for interconnection processes across generation projects. This role sits in the Chicago office with a hybrid schedule (in-office Mon–Thu, remote Fri).

The engineer will review studies, develop interconnection facility concepts, and support regulatory and market rule interpretation, working with PJM/NYISO/ISONE regions and transmission planning activities.

Formación

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
  • 0–2+ years of experience in transmission planning, compliance and operations including complex power flow, short circuit, and stability studies.
  • FERC, NERC standards related to transmission and interconnections knowledge.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsabilidades

Position Overview

The Engineer, Interconnections and Grid Analysis will perform technical analysis to assist in the interconnection process for the different generation projects. Based out of Invenergy’s Chicago office, the Engineer, Interconnections and Grid Analysis will also be responsible for assisting in other transmission associated activities and analysis, including interpreting the different market rules as they apply to the interconnection process.

Invenergy follows a hybrid schedule, working in office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays.

Responsibilities
  • Perform power flow analysis and market related evaluations as part of generation and transmission development activities.
  • Provide grid, transmission system planning and congestion evaluation, to assist in development activities mainly in PJM, NYISO, and ISONE
  • Review utility and RTO/ISO transmission expansion plans to identify potential opportunities.
  • Review utility interconnection studies (feasibility, impact, stability and facility).
  • Identify areas for new transmission projects based on generation technological shifts and the corresponding impacts it has on grid behavior.
  • Utilize regulatory and compliance knowledge to identify and evaluate areas of critical impact for projects in the interconnection pipeline.
  • Work with regulatory team to provide input on queue reforms and process changes as necessary.
  • Develop conceptual design of interconnection facilities and costs.
  • Assist in conceptual design of wind farm and solar electrical collection systems (34.5kV), substations (34.5kV - transmission voltage 115kV - 230kV - 345kV), and project owned transmission lines.
  • Provide assistance during project design and construction for interconnection related issues
  • Interpret market rules as they apply to the interconnection study, construction, and operation of generation projects
  • Provide assistance to asset managers in developing and implementing bidding and risk management strategies
  • Participate in various industry groups dealing with interconnection and market issues.
  • Perform technical diligence for potential M&A projects
  • Perform complex Transmission delivery assessments to support Origination and business opportunities for RFPs.
  • Coordinate with consultants to prepare system models and perform reliability and economic studies.
  • Establish relationships with various technical experts among stakeholders, utilities, RTO/ISOs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems
  • 0-2+ years of experience in transmission system planning, compliance and operations including complex power flow, short circuit, and stability studies.
  • General knowledge of, or desire to learn, FERC, NERC standards related to transmission and interconnections
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working on regional complex power system studies and system planning assessments.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet modeling using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT) a plus.
  • ISO/RTO or Utility interconnection related experience preferred.
  • Experienced in the use of power flow software such as PSS/E, GE PSLF TARA, PowerWorld or similar software package a plus.
  • Experience in using VBA for automating processes, tasks or interpreting data is a plus.

Base Pay

90,000 - 105,000 USD Annual

Bonus: 15%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.

In addition to base pay, the total annual compensation package may also include eligibility to participate in our bonus program(s) which are designed to reward individual and company performance.
