Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Engineer I, Electrical for a direct-hire role in our Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC office.

Not remote; primary duties include electrical design, calculations, and plant upgrades to improve performance, safety, and reliability. The successful candidate will support power distribution analyses, collaborate with project teams, and travel to client sites as needed.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• Experience with electrical power distribution systems and calculations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, MS Office proficiency.
• MS in EE preferred.
• Nuclear power industry experience preferred.
• FE exam completion desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with calculations, modifications, and designs for electrical power distribution systems.
• Collaborate on project teams to evaluate conditions, propose modifications, and develop design changes.
• Perform walk-downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment.
• Work on multiple projects concurrently and manage time effectively.
• Travel to client sites and perform field and office work as required.
• Maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and comply with security and drug-screening requirements.
• Provide written and verbal communication and presentation of engineering findings.

Job description

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. (ZNE) is seeking an Engineer I, Electrical for a direct‑hire position in our Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC office. This position is not remote.

Position Synopsis

Successful candidate will perform a variety of engineering and design activities involving power plant upgrades and/or new power plant projects under the supervision of senior engineering staff, applying standard engineering methods and calculations to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Assist with calculations, modifications, and designs for electrical power distribution systems.
• Collaborate on project teams to evaluate conditions, propose modifications, and develop design changes.
• Perform walk‑downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including ladder climbing, confined space entry, and other required field tasks.
• Work on multiple projects concurrently, managing time effectively.
• Travel to client sites and perform field and office work as required.
• Maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and comply with security and drug‑screening requirements.
• Provide written and verbal communication and presentation of engineering findings.

Qualifications

• Education (required) – BS in electrical engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
• Experience (required) – Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, load‑flow, voltage drop, and short‑circuit calculations; proven through academic record or work experience.
• Other required skills – Excellent verbal and written communication, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency, effective time management, and ability to understand and comply with company policies.
• Preferred education – MS in electrical engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
• Preferred experience – Experience in the nuclear power industry, field experience on nuclear plant projects, and modeling using ETAP or SKM.
• Fundamentals of Engineering exam completion desirable.
